16. The role of endogenous hypercholecystokininemia and hypergastrinemia in growth and carcinogenesis of the exocrine pancreas
Sammanfattning : The gut hormones cholecystokinin (CCK) and gastrin are phylogeneticallyand structurally related. Under normal conditions, CCK regulates growth of the exocrine pancreas and gastrin growth of the oxyntic mucosa of the stomach. LÄS MER
17. The use of mechanical circulatory support and passive ventricular constraint in patients with acute and chronic heart failure
Sammanfattning : Many patients are diagnosed as having chronic heart failure (CHF) and apart from the fact that daily activities are impaired, they are great consumers of health care, and the prognosis is poor. The distinction between acute heart failure (AHF) and CHF may be difficult and is more a question of time rather than severity. LÄS MER
18. Inhibition of light-induced colour reversion of wood-containing papers by means of coating
Sammanfattning : The main purpose of this thesis was to find ways to maintain a low level of light‐induceddiscolouration at an increased addition of mechanical and chemimechanical pulps in coated highqualityfine paper and magazine paper grades. Current technology allows the production of highyieldpulps such as thermomechanical and chemimechanical pulps with properties suitable formanufacturing high‐quality paper or paperboard with a low basis weight. 19. Estrogen and raloxifene in experimental arthritis and osteoporosis
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT In postmenopausal rheumatoid arthritis (RA), both the estrogen deficiency and the inflammatory disease contribute to the development of generalized osteoporosis. This leads to an increased risk of fracture, with high morbidity and mortality. More than 50% of women with postmenopausal RA suffer from osteoporosis. LÄS MER
20. Rock mass behavior under hydropower embankment dams : results from numerical analyses
Sammanfattning : Bridges are an important element of the infrastructure today. The technical competence has reached high levels in most countries and the limits given to a bridge designer are set by economic restrictions rather than technical skill. LÄS MER
