21. Experimental validation and numerical upscaling of linear network models for simulation of paper
Sammanfattning : Paper modeling results in complex geometries that lead to enormous numerical problems. The complexity lies in the material's microstructure. Individual paper fibers must be considered for useful material simulations in paper development, where wood composition and other fiber-based parameters are essential. LÄS MER
22. Steel members strengthened with carbon fibre reinforced polymers - A study of local and global structural behaviour
Sammanfattning : Investigations have been conducted by several research groups to study the effect of using carbon fibre reinforced polymers (CFRP) as reinforcement on steel beams and a brief summary of this work is given in this thesis. Laboratory studies of reinforced steel beams demonstrate that the bending stiffness and the ultimate load-carrying capacity can be significantly increased. LÄS MER
23. Study of a Large Deformable Mirror Concept
Sammanfattning : It is attractive to integrate a large deformable mirror for adaptive optics into an astronomical telescope rather than using relay optics within an auxiliary instrument. However, the resulting large deformable mirror can be expensive, particularly for extremely large telescopes. LÄS MER
24. Influence of inhomogeneities on the tensile and compressive mechanical properties of paperboard
Sammanfattning : The in-plane properties of paperboard have always been of interest to paper scientists. Tensile properties are crucial when the board is fed through converting machines at high speeds. Compressive properties are essential in the later use. Inhomogeneities affect both the compressive and tensile properties. LÄS MER
25. Flexographic Post-Printing of Corrugated Board : Contact Mechanics and Print Quality
Sammanfattning : As the corrugated board industry strives to produce products with a higher print quality in the converting stage, there is a need for a greater understanding of the factors influencing the final print quality and how we perceive the print. In this work, a method for quantifying the print quality of printed corrugated board is presented as well as methods that quantitatively characterize the mechanical interaction between the printing form and the corrugated board in the printing nip.
