  1. 16. Alterations in peripheral glucocorticoid metabolism : effects of weight changes

    Författare :Kotryna Simonyté; Cecilia Mattsson; Bo Angelin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; 11ß Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1; obesity; glucocorticoids; cortisol; phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase; adipose tissue; liver; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: An important role has been suggested for tissue-specific glucocorticoid metabolism in the development of obesity and its complications. 11ß hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 1 (11ßHSD1) is an enzyme that catalyzes the interconversion of biologically inactive cortisone to active cortisol, thereby regulating its access to glucocorticoid receptors in target tissues. 2. 17. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease : A clinical and histopathological study

    Författare :Mattias Ekstedt; Stergios Kechagias; Stefan Lindgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gastroenterology; Gastroenterologi;

    Sammanfattning : Fatty liver has previously often been associated with excessive alcohol consumption. During the last two decades, the interest in fatty liver occurring in non-drinkers i.e. non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has increased dramatically. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR V30M) : from genes to genealogy

    Författare :Nina Norgren; Ole Suhr; Alda Sousa; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis; Familial amyloid polyneuropathy; transthyretin; genealogy; founder effect; miRNA; allele-specific expression; gene expression; liver; medicin; Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis is an autosomal dominant disease with a reduced penetrance. The most common mutation in Sweden is the V30M mutation in the transthyretin gene. Clustering areas of the disease can be found in Northern Sweden, Portugal, Brazil and Japan, although sporadic cases exist worldwide. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes

    Författare :Magdalena Lundgren; Jan Eriksson; Jonas Burén; Eva Degerman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; adipose tissue; cAMP; glucocorticoids; glucose; insulin; insulin resistance; lipolysis; subcutaneous fat; type 2 diabetes; visceral fat; Medicine; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease : Aspects on Diagnosis and Long-term Prognosis

    Författare :Patrik Nasr; Stergios Kechagias; Mattias Ekstedt; Peter Lundberg; Einar Stefán Björnsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease affecting approximately 25% of the global population and is commonly recognized as the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome. The histological spectrum of NAFLD ranges from isolated steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), with risk of developing fibrosis and subsequent cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
