11. Semiconductor Nanowires: Epitaxy and Applications
Sammanfattning : Semiconductor nanowires are nanoscale objects formed by bottom-up synthesis. In recent years their unique properties have been exploited in fields such as electronics, photonics, sensors and the life sciences. In this work, the epitaxial growth of nanowires and their applications were studied. LÄS MER
12. Modelling of Quantum Transport in Nanostructures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, theoretical studies of the transport properties of three nanoscale systems: one-dimensional (1D) quantum wires (QWRs), zero-dimensional (0D), laterally confined, double-barrier resonant tunnelling structures (DBRTSs) and three-terminal ballistic junctions (TBJs), have been performed. In the first part of the thesis, an overview of the realization and properties of such systems is given along with a description of modelling tools used in the calculations. LÄS MER
13. Theoretical study of electronic structure and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the electronic structure and optical properties of semiconductor nanostructures are studied theoretically. Three types of nanostructures have been studied, silicon nanocrystals, free-standing III-V nanowires and free-standing GaAs/AlGaAs nanowire superlattices. LÄS MER
14. Leveraging HVPE for III-V/Si Integration and Mid-Infrared Photonic Device Fabrication
Sammanfattning : This work covers the implementation of highly specialized epitaxial techniques enabled by the near-equilibrium hydride vapor-phase epitaxy growth process in III-V/Si integration for Si-based tandem solar cells and photoelectrochemical reactions, quasi phase matching GaP structures on GaAs substrates, and regrowth of InP:Fe on quantum cascade lasing structures.III-V/Si integration is an important topic in several fields of research with a significant one being solar energy harvesting. 15. Optical characterization of Silicon-based self-assembled nanostructures
Sammanfattning : This PhD thesis summarizes the work carried on the optical characterizations of some Si-based self-assembled nanostructures, particularly SiGe/Si quantum dots (QDs) and nanocrystalline (nc)-Si embedded in mesoporous silica (MS) using photoconductivity (PC), photoluminescence (PL), and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) measurements. The spectroscopic studies of SiGe/Si QDs grown on Si by molecular beam epitaxy revealed for the first time well-resolved PLE resonances. LÄS MER
