16. Not all those who wander are lost : A study of cancer cells by digital holographic imaging, fluorescence and a combination thereof
Sammanfattning : Cells are commonly used in research to evaluate toxicity and efficiency of drugs. However, to further increase the usefulness of cells as well as the understandings of effects of different interventions, new methods must constantly be developed and refined. LÄS MER
17. Too close for comfort : The role of Contact-Dependent growth Inhibition (CDI) in interbacterial competition and cooperation
Sammanfattning : Contact-Dependent growth inhibition (CDI) was discovered in 2005 in the E. coli isolate EC93. Since then our knowledge of CDI systems and their impact on bacterial communities have increased exponentially. LÄS MER
18. Silicon Nanowire Field-Effect Devices as Low-Noise Sensors
Sammanfattning : In the past decades, silicon nanowire field-effect transistors (SiNWFETs) have been explored for label-free, highly sensitive, and real-time detections of chemical and biological species. The SiNWFETs are anticipated for sensing analyte at ultralow concentrations, even at single-molecule level, owing to their significantly improved charge sensitivity over large-area FETs. LÄS MER
19. Studies on 15-lipoxygenase in dendritic cells and leukotriene receptors in Hodgkin lymphoma
Sammanfattning : Classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) is histologically characterized by a minority of malignant cells, the so-called Hodgkin-Reed Sternberg (H-RS) cells, surrounded by inflammatory cells such as T lymphocytes, eosinophils, macrophages and mast cells. It is generally believed that various molecules released by the H-RS cells are of major importance in the pathophysiology of cHL. LÄS MER
20. Cell death and signal transduction pathways in Alzheimer's disease : the role of presenilin 1
Sammanfattning : Mutated presenilins (PSs) may cause familial Alzheimer's disease (FAD) by altering neuronal signal transduction pathways, by increasing AP production or by triggering a number of proapoptotic mechanisms. The present thesis explores mechanisms by which PSs regulate signal transduction and cell death with relevance to AD. LÄS MER
