  1. 41. Phylogenetic Inference and Allopolyploid Speciation - A Study of Silene section Physolychnis

    Författare :Anna Petri; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; allopolyploidization; next-generation sequencing; Physolychnis; sequence specific primers; Silene; species networks; transcriptomics;

    Sammanfattning : The major theme of this thesis is allopolyploidization, with focus on Silene section Physolychnis. The evolutionary history of an allopolyploid species can be established by inferring the sister relationships of the homoeologous sequences from low copy nuclear markers. LÄS MER

  2. 42. On the Evolution of Reproductive Systems in Neurospora

    Författare :Rebecka Strandberg; Hanna Johannesson; Paul Dyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurospora; mating type; pheromone receptor; phylogeny; gene expression; heterothallism; homothallism; pseudohomothallism; alternative splicing; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Genetics; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study the evolution of reproductive systems and reproductive traits in the fungal genus Neurospora. More specifically, I have investigated the evolutionary forces shaping the genes involved in sexual reproduction, focusing on mating-type (mat) and pheromone receptor (pre) genes. LÄS MER

  3. 43. Evolutionary dynamics of migration and breeding in wild birds: genetic architecture, sexual conflicts and evolutionary constraints

    Författare :Maja Tarka; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantitative genetics; heritability; intralocus sexual conflict; antagonistic selection; QTL; G-matrix; wing length; arrival date; migration; geolocator; bird; Acrocephalus arundinaceus;

    Sammanfattning : Our knowledge of the evolutionary potential of traits involved in different selective episodes, especially in natural populations, is still limited. This is true for questions such as the genetic basis and inheritance of traits, how natural and sexual selection acts on them, and how selective conflicts influence the evolutionary response to selection. 4. 44. Geographic Distribution of Intra-specific Variation in Widespread Eurasian boreo-nemoral Woodland Herbs

    Författare :Torbjörn Tyler; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; Plant genetics; Växtgenetik; morfologi; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; phytogeography; morphology; taxonomy; historical biogeography; Systematic botany; allozymes; population differentiation; postglacial migration; genetic variation; geographic variation;

    Sammanfattning : Many woodland plant species have huge distribution areas covering large parts of the Eurasian continent including areas that were glaciated during the last glacial period. In the present thesis, the geographic distribution of variation within such species is investigated and discussed in relation to glacial survival and post-glacial migration, dispersal ability, breeding system and levels of gene-flow between populations and related species, and various methods to measure and analyse genetic variation. 5. 45. Understanding evolutionary novelty through female-limited polymorphisms

    Författare :Kalle Tunström; Christopher W. Wheat; Rhonda R. Snook; Patrícia Beldade; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; populationsgenetik; Population Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding how novel traits evolve is a central question in evolutionary biology. However, unraveling the complex genetic and developmental mechanisms underlying trait innovation can be challenging, especially when the trait evolved a long time ago. LÄS MER
