21. Large-scale releases of native species: the mallard as a predictive model system
Sammanfattning : Human alteration of natural systems, and its consequences are of great concern and the impact on global ecosystems is one of the biggest threats that biodiversity stands before. Translocations of invasive species, as well as intraspecific contingents with non-native genotypes, whether they are deliberate or unintentional, are one such alteration and its consequences are continuously being assessed. 22. Hybridization and Evolution in the Genus Pinus
Sammanfattning : Gene flow and hybridization are pervasive in nature, and can lead to different evolutionary outcomes. They can either accelerate divergence and promote speciation or reverse differentiation. The process of divergence and speciation are strongly influenced by both neutral and selective forces. LÄS MER
23. Genetic Loci Contributing to Spontaneous Autoimmune Diabetes
Sammanfattning : Background and Aims: Spontaneous type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the BioBreeding (BB) rat mimics human T1D as the rats experience weight loss, polydipsia, polyuria, ketoacidosis, onset during puberty and insulin-dependency within a day after diagnosis. Because the DP rat develops T1D spontaneously, it is a prime laboratory animal for dissecting the genetics of T1D susceptibility without the need for external manipulation. LÄS MER
24. Patterns of geographic variation in Silene section Elisanthe (Caryophyllaceae): hybridization and migrational history
Sammanfattning : Large-scale patterns of genetic variation in chloroplast (cp) and nuclear DNA in the widespread European herb species Silene latifolia and S. dioica were investigated using cpPCR-RFLPs, non-coding cpDNA sequences, AFLPs and sequences of the internal transcribed spacers (ITS) of nuclear ribosomal DNA (rDNA). 25. Systematics of polyploid Dactylorhiza (Orchidaceae) - genetic diversity, phylogeography and evolution
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines genetic variation in allotetraploids of the Dactylorhiza incarnata/maculata polyploid complex in different parts of Europe. The molecular markers used were AFLPs, allozymes, ITS, nuclear microsatellites and plastid DNA markers. LÄS MER
