21. Functional residual capacity – development of new monitoring techniques for critically ill patients
Sammanfattning : Functional residual capacity (FRC) and end-expiratory lung volume (EELV) are important parameters for respiratory monitoring in critically ill adult and paediatric patients. Until now we have lacked clinically useful methods to measure these lung volumes. LÄS MER
22. Body Composition and Energy Expenditure in Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is increasing in Sweden as well as worldwide. The main cause of the disease is cigarette smoking. Almost 50 % of all COPD patients become underweight. LÄS MER
23. Effects of diet intervention on body composition and ectopic fat accumulation in obese postmenopausal women
Sammanfattning : Background Obesity is increasing worldwide and is a major contributor to morbidity and mortality. Notably, abdominal (central) obesity carries a high risk of obesity-related diseases, while peripheral fat accumulation can act in a protective manner. LÄS MER
24. Physical activity and energy expenditure in clinical settings using multisensor activity monitors
Sammanfattning : Background: Objective methods need to replace subjective methods for accurate quantification of physical activity. To be used in clinical settings objective methods have to show high reliability, validity and feasibility. The commonly used activity monitors are unable to detect the variety of physical activities. 25. Synthesis and characterisation of Zintl hydrides
Sammanfattning : The synthesis, structural characterisation and the properties of the Zintl hydrides AeE2H2 and AeAlSiH (Ae = Ba, Ca, Sr; E = Al, Ga, In, Si, Zn) are reported. The first hydride in this class of compounds is SrAl2H2 which was discovered under an experiment by Gingl, who hydrogenated SrAl2 at various temperatures. LÄS MER
