  1. 21. Functional mapping and in vivo metabolism of the monoclonal antibody TS1 and its single-chain fragment : Its interaction with the antigen and the anti-idiotype

    Författare :Patrik Holm; Birgitta Sundström; Lars Gedda; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; single-chain antibody; functional mapping; site-directed mutagenesis; immune complex; metabolism; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Biomedical Laboratory Science; Biomedicinsk laboratorievetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Antibodies are proteins capable of specific interactions to a wide range of molecules. These interactions are facilitated by the complementary determining regions (CDR).Carcinomas are the most common of human cancers and they release significant amount of cytokeratins (CK) in the necrotic areas of the tumors. Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates. 3. 23. Endogenous Type I Interferon Inducers in Systemic Autoimmune Diseases

    Författare :Tanja Lövgren; Lars Rönnblom; Gunnar Alm; Maija-Leena Eloranta; Andrej Tarkowski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Systemic lupus erythematosus; Sjögren s syndrome; type I interferon; plasmacytoid dendritic cell; natural interferon-producing cell; immune complex; RNP; Ro SSA; La SSB; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have elevated levels of interferon (IFN)-α in blood and IFN-α-producing cells in tissues. In the present thesis, we investigate the mechanisms behind the upregulated IFN-α-production in SLE and also show that the IFN-α system is activated in primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), with IFN-α-producing cells in the major affected organ, the salivary glands. 4. 24. Autoantibodies and the Type I Interferon System in the Etiopathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

    Sammanfattning : In sera remitted for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) analysis, the supplement of a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the conventional ANA screening by immunofluorescence (IF) revealed that one fourth of the individuals with IF-ANA negative, but SSA/Ro ELISA positive sera, had systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or cutaneous LE. Consequently, adding a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the ANA screening is valuable for the serological detection of ANA negative SLE/LE patients. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Regulation of Type I Interferon Production in Plasmacytoid Dendritic Cells : Effect of Genetic Factors and Interactions with NK Cells and B Cells

    Författare :Olof Berggren; Maija-Leena Eloranta; Niels Heegaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic lupus erythemtosus; IFN-alpha; autoimmunity; immune complex; single nuclear polymorphisms; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The type I interferon (IFN) system plays a central role in the etiopathogenesis of many autoimmune diseases, e.g. systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Activation of the type I IFN system in SLE is promoted by endogenous nucleic acid-containing immune complexes (ICs) which stimulate plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs). LÄS MER
