  1. 21. Growth factor regulation of the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrium, and the significance of uPA receptor activation in endometrial angiogenesis

    Författare :Tove Sandberg; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obstetrics; endothelial cell migration; angiogenesis; uPA:PAI-1 complex; uPAR; TGF-beta; PAI-1; EGF; uPA; Growth factor; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis was to examine the role of growth factors and the urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) system in human endometrial angiogenesis. Growth factors as well as progesterone increased expression of the main inhibitor of uPA (PAI-1) in primary cultures of endometrial stromal cells. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Endometrial receptivity and human embryo implantation : in vivo and in vitro studies

    Författare :Sujata Lalit Kumar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :3D-endometrial cell construct;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Infertility, one of the common gynaecological disorders, affects 10-15% women in their reproductive years. Despite the advances in assisted reproduction techniques and the best efforts of infertility specialists, implantation rates do not exceed more than 28-30%. LÄS MER

  3. 23. HIV target cells and innate immune factors in the human female genital tract

    Författare :Tove Kaldensjö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : World-wide, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission most often takes place in the genital tract during heterosexual intercourse, but the site where HIV most commonly establishes primary infection in the female genital tract remains unknown. Several factors including viral load in the HIV-infected individual, presence of genital infections, genotype and possibly sex hormone levels influence the risk of HIV acquisition. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Molecular and functional studies on human embryo implantation : targets for infertility and fertility regulation

    Författare :Nageswara Rao Boggavarapu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: An estimated one in four couples globally suffers from infertility or fertility related issues and rate of global infertility is about 10-15%. Despite the best optimization of assisted reproductive technique the pregnancy rate is not more than 30%. LÄS MER

  5. 25. The effect of a progesterone receptor modulator on the endometrium and breast in premenopausal women

    Sammanfattning : Background: The levonorgestrel intrauterine system, LNG-IUS 52 mg, is a highly effective and costeffective contraceptive, entailing minimal patient effort. Irregular bleeding patterns are common during the first months of use and constitutes one of the main reasons for discontinuation. LÄS MER
