1. Effects of Motion Sickness on Human Thermoregulatory Mechanisms
Sammanfattning : The presented studies were performed to investigate the effects of motion sickness (MS) on human autonomic and behavioural thermoregulatory mechanisms during cold stress and in a thermoneutral environment. The roles of histaminergic and cholinergic neuron systems in autonomic thermoregulation and MS-dependent dysfunction of autonomic thermoregulation were studied using a histamine-receptor blocker, dimenhydrinate (DMH), and a muscarine-receptor blocker, scopolamine (Scop). 2. Nasal mucosal reactivity after long-time exposure to building dampness
Sammanfattning : An association between working and/or residing in damp buildings and respiratory health has been reported in a number of studies. A major limitation has been difficulty in objectively verifying any effects on the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract in order to explain symptoms of irritated eyes, nasal congestion and cough that are often reported by occupants in buildings with indoor air problems. 3. Allergen-induced late airways reaction in the pig : influence of endogenous and exogenous glucocorticoids
Sammanfattning : A novel model for studies of the allergen-induced late reaction in the lower airways was developed in the pig. The influence on late bronchial obstruction and granulocyte function of endogenous cortisol levels and treatment with the glucocorticoid budesonide (BUD) was evaluated. LÄS MER
4. Mast cell activation in response to osmotic and immunological stimulation with focus on release of eicosanoid mediators
Sammanfattning : Mast cells are important in asthma and other inflammatory diseases. Subjects with asthma have been found to have an increased number of mast cells in their airway smooth muscle and this was related to airway sensitivity. LÄS MER
5. Cutaneous microdialysis : a technique for human in vivo sampling
Sammanfattning : Microdialysis enables in vivo sampling of endogenous and exogenous substances in the interstitial fluid. A probe equipped with a tubular semi-permeable dialysis membrane is inserted into the skin, and perfused with a physiological solution. LÄS MER
