  1. 11. Metapopulation and metacommunity processes, dispersal strategies and life-history trade-offs in epiphytes

    Författare :Swantje Löbel; Håkan Rydin; Tord Snäll; Lars E. Ericson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; asexual; biodiversity; bryophytes; dispersal limitation; establishment; evolution of reproductive traits; germination; growth; habitat fragmentation; landscape dynamics; local processes; patch-tracking; pH; reproduction; species richness; species interactions; Other biology; Övrig biologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about metapopulation and metacommunity processes in patchy, dynamic landscapes, using epiphytic bryophytes as a model system. Host trees and deciduous forest stands in the coniferous landscape are patchy, temporal and undergo changes in habitat quality during succession. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Ecology across Boundaries : Food web coupling among and within ecosystems

    Författare :Pia Bartels; Peter Eklöv; Lars J. Tranvik; Daniel E. Schindler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross-ecosystem; food web; habitat coupling; terrestrial-aquatic linkages; subsidy; allochthonous; lake ecosystem; population divergence; trait variation; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestrisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi; Biology; Biologi; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi; Biology with specialization in Limnology;

    Sammanfattning : Cross-boundary movements of energy and material are ubiquitous. Freshwater ecosystems receive nutrients, dissolved, and particulate organic matter from adjacent terrestrial ecosystems, whereas terrestrial ecosystems mainly receive prey organisms and detritus deposited by physical processes such as floods from freshwater ecosystems. 3. 13. Effects of created habitats on farmland biodiversity

    Författare :Annelie Jönsson; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agricultural intensification; brown hare; common pheasant; farming intensity; granivorous passerines; grey partridge; habitat creation; landscape heterogeneity; pollinators;

    Sammanfattning : Agricultural intensification has caused severe declines among biodiversity in European farmland over the last half century. The transformation of the agricultural landscape has led to reduced availability of key resources such as food, nesting habitat and shelter. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Competition in caddis larvae

    Författare :Göran Englund; S. Kohler; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Agrypnia pagetana; Arctopsyche ladogensis; emigration; fighting behaviour; habitat selection; Hydropsyche siltalai; Hydropsychidae; immigration; predation; resource competition; sequential assessment game;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with behavioural strategies used by caddis larvae in pairwise contests and when selecting microhabitats. Effects of caddis larvae on survival and habitat selection of other insect taxa have also been studied. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The Ecological Role of Roadside Stormwater Ponds - Potential to Support Biodiversity

    Författare :Zhenhua Sun; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Macroinvertebrates; Stormwater ponds; DNA metabarcoding; Sediments; High throughput sequencing; Road runoff; Water quality; Aquatic biodiversity;

    Sammanfattning : The increased recognition that roads may impair the aquatic environment and ecosystems has led to a shift from conventional drainage systems toward blue-green solutions such as stormwater ponds. Research on blue-green stormwater solutions has until now mainly focused on water quantity and quality. LÄS MER
