  1. 1. Effects of created habitats on farmland biodiversity

    Författare :Annelie Jönsson; Biodiversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agricultural intensification; brown hare; common pheasant; farming intensity; granivorous passerines; grey partridge; habitat creation; landscape heterogeneity; pollinators;

    Sammanfattning : Agricultural intensification has caused severe declines among biodiversity in European farmland over the last half century. The transformation of the agricultural landscape has led to reduced availability of key resources such as food, nesting habitat and shelter. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Creation of a Nanometer-Scale Toolbox for Molecular Motor Transport-Circuits

    Författare :Richard Bunk; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Coating and surface treatment; materialteknik; Materiallära; Material technology; Produktionsteknik; Production technology; Semiconductory physics; Halvledarfysik; Proteins; enzymology; Proteiner; enzymologi; reumatologi; Physics; Fysik; muskelsystem; Skelett; rheumatology locomotion; muscle system; Skeleton; Biofysik; Biophysics; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; fluorescence microscopy; EBL; T-profile channel; nano-imprinting; cargo; quantum dot; silane; myosin; actin; motor protein; factory-on-a-chip; toolbox; lab-on-a-chip; molecular motor; nanotechnology; Biokemisk teknik; Biotechnology; Bioteknik; Skikt och ytbehandling; Biochemical technology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents studies of molecular motors in interaction with nm-scale structures, as well as the development of a set of tools that can be used for the construction of custom-designed nano-transportation systems. In our studies, we have used the latest nanoscale technology and combined this with advanced results from chemistry and biomedical sciences. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nature Routines of Children as Leverage Point for Sustainable Social-Ecological Urbanism : Connecting childhood and biosphere to design sustainable civilizations in the human habitat

    Författare :Matteo Giusti; Stephan Barthel; Lars Marcus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nature routines; strong sustainability; sustainable social-ecological urbanism; connection to nature; children; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : Strong sustainability requires enhanced knowledge and understanding of complex social-ecological interactions, but it also implies a ‘novel’ conceptualization of the relationship between humans and nature, one in which individuals perceive themselves as embedded members of the Biosphere. The aim of this Licentiate thesis is to investigate the validity of a strategy that is centered on designing the urban green infrastructure to nurture such human-nature relationship in children’s attitudes. 4. 4. Wetland creation and restoration for biodiversity : outcomes of conservation initiatives to benefit birds, amphibians and occasionally fish

    Författare :Ineta Kacergyte; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Wetlands are one of the world’s most important ecosystems, but they are largely destroyed, modified, polluted and degraded. This has resulted in declines in wetland biodiversity, including that of birds, amphibians and fish. To mitigate those declines, many wetlands have been created and restored worldwide. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ecological and evolutionary effects of predation in environmental gradients

    Författare :Gunnar Öhlund; Göran Englund; Skuli Skulason; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding species interactions and how they affect densities and distributions of organisms is a central theme in ecological research. Studying such interactions in an ecosystem context is challenging as they often depend on species-specific characteristics and rates that not only change during the ontogeny of an organism, but also are affected by the surrounding environment.
