  1. 21. Mitochondrial dysfunction and treatment strategies

    Författare :Shuba Krishnan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : The mitochondria are essential for cellular energy production and are involved in many processes in the cells. The mitochondria contain their own DNA (mtDNA) that is vital for oxidative phosphorylation since it encodes enzymes of the respiratory chain. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Family business portfolios : Enduring entrepreneurship and exit strategies

    Författare :Naveed Akhter; Francesco Chirico; Marcela Ramirez-Pasillas; Peter Rosa; Högskolan i Jönköping; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines how family business portfolios endure across time and investigates the entrepreneurial strategies that they engage in. The goal of this dissertation is addressed through five appended papers in which I have argued for the importance of business families owning multiple firms, that is, portfolio entrepreneurship. Sammanfattning : The Driving to Learn project explored possible achievements of training people with cognitive disabilities in a joystick-operated powered wheelchair utilizing the grounded theory approach. Theoretical sampling led the concomitant collection and analysis of data. LÄS MER

  4. 24. The language learning infant: Effects of speech input, vocal output, and feedback

    Författare :Lisa Gustavsson; Francisco Lacerda; Roger Moore; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; human; language; language acquisition; perception; production; humanoid; development; model; embodied system; speech signal processing; vocal tract morphology; acoustic; speech input; information processing; scaling; interaction; growth; infant; imitation; feedback; perceptual salience; modeling; Phonetics; Fonetik; Phonetics; fonetik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis studies the characteristics of the acoustic signal in speech, especially in speech directed to infants and in infant vocal development, to gain insight on essential aspects of speech processing, speech production and communicative interaction in early language acquisition. Three sets of experimental studies are presented in this thesis. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Pollinators, Enemies, Drought, and the Evolution of Reproductive Traits in Primula farinosa

    Författare :Per Toräng; Jon Ågren; Johan Ehrlén; Rebecca Irwin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Alternative reproductive strategies; climate change; facilitation; floral display; flowering phenology; frequency-dependent selection; genetic diversity; life-history strategies; local adaptation; pollination; predation; Primula farinosa; reproductive effort; soil disturbance; stochastic growth rate; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I combined comparative and experimental approaches to examine selection on reproductive traits and population differentiation in the insect-pollinated, self-incompatible, perennial herb Primula farinosa. More specifically, I (1) determined whether the effects of floral display and interactions with pollinators and seed predators, and plant reproductive success were frequency-dependent and affected by surrounding vegetation context, (2) examined the consequences of intermittent drought years on population dynamics using numerical simulations based on demographic data collected over seven years, (3) analyzed among-population differentiation in flowering phenology and reproductive allocation, and its relationship to soil-depth at the site of origin.
