  1. 11. Growth Hormone and Anabolic Androgenic Steroids : Effects on Neurochemistry and Cognition

    Författare :Alfhild Grönbladh; Mathias Hallberg; Jörgen Isgaard; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; anabolic androgenic steroids; nandrolone decanoate; insulin-like growth factor; GABAB; opioids; memory; water maze; autoradiography; central nervous system; rats; Biological Research on Drug Dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) stimulates growth and metabolism but also displays profound effects on the central nervous system (CNS). GH affects neurogenesis and neuroprotection, and has been shown to counteract drug-induced apoptosis in the brain. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Prediction Models and Pharmacogenomics in Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency

    Författare :Edna J L Barbosa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone deficiency; hypopituitarism; growth hormone replacement therapy; prediction models; candidate gene approach; polymorphisms; body composition; growth hormone receptor; lipid metabolism; extracellular water; pharmacogenomics;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to study clinical and genetic factors that influence response to growth hormone replacement therapy (GHRT) in GH deficient (GHD) adults. The patients were part of a cohort of adults with hypopituitarism and severe GHD who were studied before and after 12 months of GHRT. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Metabolic responsiveness to growth hormone in children

    Författare :Ralph Decker; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Individualized treatment; Growth hormone; Hormonal responsiveness; Metabolic outcome; Prediction model; Body composition; Insulin sensitivity; Leptin; Proteomics SELDI; Apolipoproteins; Thresholds of growth hormone effects; Protein patterns;

    Sammanfattning : Metabolic effects of growth hormone (GH) therapy in short children have not been clearly established owing to the previous lack of controlled trials studying the metabolic outcome in response to different GH doses despite the known effects of GH on insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and body composition. It has previously been shown that individualized GH doses during catch-up growth significantly reduce the proportion of unexpectedly good and poor responders around a predefined individual growth target in short prepubertal children. 4. 14. Long-term effects of growth hormone replacement in hypopituitary adults on body composition, bone mass and cardiovascular risk factors

    Författare :Mariam Elbornsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; growth hormone; growth hormone deficiency; growth hormone replacement; bone mineral density; body composition; muscle strength; elderly; cardiovascular risk factors; pituitary irradiation;

    Sammanfattning : Growth hormone (GH) deficient (GHD) adults have decreased bone mass and muscle strength, impaired body composition, disturbed serum lipid pattern and increased morbidity and mortality in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. GH replacement normalizes most of these aberrations within the first year of treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Growth Hormone and Gender. Studies in Healthy Adults and in Patients with Growth Hormone Disorders

    Författare :Britt Edén Engström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Growth hormone; gender; ambulation; oral contraceptives; epinephrine; GH treatment; age; E2-implant; IGF-I; octreotide; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The use of a new, more sensitive immunoassay for growth hormone (GH) revealed that the serum levels in men were lower than expected in sera drawn ambulatory in the morning after an overnight fast and that the gender difference was more than 10 times greater than reported. These observations led to a more thorough study on the impact of gender and sex steroids on the levels of GH and other hormones in ambulatory morning samples and over a 24-hour period. LÄS MER
