  1. 1. Metabolic Effects of Growth Hormone Replacement Therapy in Adults - with Special Reference to Insulin Sensitivity

    Författare :Mikael Segerlantz; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; secreting systems; Endocrinology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; cortisol replacement; lipid oxidation; glucose metabolism; glucose uptake; insulin resitance; GH; insulin sensitivity; GH deficiency;

    Sammanfattning : A risk for premature atherosclerosis and increased cardiovascular mortality has been reported in adult patients suffering from growth hormone deficiency (GHD) and receiving conventional hormone substitution without growth hormone (GH) replacement. GHD patients are resistant to insulin, which is a potential risk factor for cardiovascular mortality. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Aspects of diagnosis and treatment of hypopituitarism in adult life

    Författare :Helena Filipsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :hypopituitarism; pituitary; diagnosis; treatment; GHD; central hypothyroidism; genetic; idiopathic; ACTH insufficiency; discontinuation;

    Sammanfattning : Management of adult patients with hypopituitarism can improve with better char¬ac¬terisation of idiopathic pituitary insufficiency (IPI) and clearer diagnosis of central hy¬pothy¬roidism (CH). Moreover, optimised treatment strategies for glucocorticoid (GC) re¬placement therapy and of long-term growth hormone (GH) in GH deficiency (GHD) are needed. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Growth Hormone and Gender. Studies in Healthy Adults and in Patients with Growth Hormone Disorders

    Författare :Britt Edén Engström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Growth hormone; gender; ambulation; oral contraceptives; epinephrine; GH treatment; age; E2-implant; IGF-I; octreotide; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; medicin;

    Sammanfattning : The use of a new, more sensitive immunoassay for growth hormone (GH) revealed that the serum levels in men were lower than expected in sera drawn ambulatory in the morning after an overnight fast and that the gender difference was more than 10 times greater than reported. These observations led to a more thorough study on the impact of gender and sex steroids on the levels of GH and other hormones in ambulatory morning samples and over a 24-hour period. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interference with biological rhythm : a novel approach to metabolic disorders in women

    Författare :Roger Karlsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Growth hormone; GH; cholecystokinin; CCK; osteocalcin; angiotensinogen; diurnal variation; oral contraception; pregnancy; menopause;

    Sammanfattning : Women seem to be largely protected against certain ‘welfare disorders’ such as cardiovacular disease and osteoporosis, during their fertile years.The metabolic changes observed during women’s non-menstrual states, i.e. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) regulate body fat

    Författare :Kristina Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obesity; insulin-like growth factor I IGF-I ; interleukin-6 IL-6 ; growth hormone GH ; GH releasing factor GHRF ; GH secretagogue GHS ; receptor; leptin; insulin; glucose; intracerebroventricular ICV ; dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry DXA ; indirect calorimetry.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the regulation of metabolism and body fat mass. Circulating IGF-I is mainly liver derived, while a large part of circulating IL-6 is produced by adipose tissue. LÄS MER
