  1. 1. Exploring Intestinal Ischemia : An experimental study

    Författare :Rolf Fröjse; Conny Arnerlöv; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Eric Wahlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; gastrointestinal tonometry; continuous; pig; pHi; intestinal ischemia; intestinal vascular bed; lactate; tissue oxygen tension; microdialysis; dopexamine; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Unrecognized intestinal mucosal ischemia in severely ill patients may trigger development of multiple organ failure. Such ischemia can be evaluated by intraluminal tonometry reflecting mucosal PCO2 and intramucosal pH (pHi). LÄS MER

  2. 2. Liver transplantation in man. Gastrointestinal perfusion and inflammatory response

    Författare :Ebbe Rønholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbondioxide; complement activation; cytokines; endotoxaemia; hydrogen-ion concentration; liver transplantation; laser-Doppler flowmetry; PMN elastase; regional blood flow; reperfusion;

    Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing liver transplantation develop a systemic inflammatory response which eventually continues with development of a multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS). Gastro-intestinal hypoxia or bacterial translocation has been proposed as the "motor" of MODS. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Nitric oxide production by the intestinal mucosa during hypoperfusion

    Författare :Johan Snygg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; nitric oxide synthase; intestinal epithelium; hemorrhagic shock; cardiac tamponade; septic shock; lower body negative pressure; splanchnic circulation; substrate; laser Doppler;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is based on the concept that gastrointestinal blood hypoperfusion is a common phenomenon associated with critical illness. Furthermore, the development of the multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS) is proposed to be initiated by gastrointestinal mucosal barrier dysfunction, allowing intestinal luminal contents to penetrate into the tissue and activate a systemic inflammatory response. 4. 4. On angiotensin II receptor type 2 receptors in the small intestine

    Författare :Sara Ewert; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :renin-angiotensin; angiotensin; small intestine; mucosa; epithelium; AT1; AT2; bradykinin; BK2 receptor; nitric oxide; iNOS; smooth muscle; contractility;

    Sammanfattning : The endocrine renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is important in the regulation of extracellular fluid volume and systemic blood pressure in strenuous conditions such as hypovolemia. Also present locally in peripheral tissues, all components of RAS are expressed and have been shown to modulate development, cell growth and inflammation. LÄS MER
