21. Plant Aquaporins: A study of expression, localization, specificity, and regulation
Sammanfattning : Aquaporins, or Major Intrinsic Proteins (MIPs), are integral proteins that facilitate transport of water and other small neutral solutes across biological membranes. They belong to a well conserved and ancient family of proteins, present in all organisms ranging from bacteria to plants and humans. LÄS MER
22. Signalling in plant mitochondria. Redox regulation of gene expression & characterisation of a pea nucleoside diphosphate kinase
Sammanfattning : This work contributes to our understanding of mitochondrial responses to changing environmental conditions in plants. The first part of this thesis is focused in the study of redox regulation of mitochondrial gene expression. By using inhibitors, the redox state of the components of the mitochondrial respiratory chain was selectively affected. LÄS MER
23. Monoglyceride Lipase and Hormone-Sensitive Lipase - Molecular and structural aspects
Sammanfattning : Triglycerides in the adipocyte are hydrolysed by means of three consecutive reactions through the combined action of two lipases: hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) and monoglyceride lipase (MGL). HSL catalyses the first and rate-limiting step, i.e. LÄS MER
24. Regulation of photosynthesis -Cytochrome b6f in redox regulation -Two novel proteases acting on an N-terminal peptide of LHCII
Sammanfattning : In higher plants photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast. This work focuses on two different processes that effects photosynthesis. Firstly, we studied the events occurring prior to the phosphorylation of LHCII. Secondly, we also studied two novel proteases, with the potential to degrade LHCII. LÄS MER
25. Neurogenesis from Neural Stem Cells, Ependymal Cells and Fibroblasts
Sammanfattning : Stroke is a major cause of death and disability around the world. Stroke leads to loss of neurons and also other cells in the brain due to lack of blood supply. Currently no therapies are available to treat stroke-related disability. It has been shown that stroke leads to increased neurogenesis, birth of new neurons, within the brain. LÄS MER
