16. Higher order finite difference methods for wave propagation problems
Sammanfattning : Wave propagation is described by the wave equation, or in the time-periodic case, by the Helmholtz equation. For problems with small wavelengths, high order discretizations must be used to resolve the solution. Two different techniques for finding compact finite difference schemes of high order are studied and compared. LÄS MER
17. Hybrid Methods for Unsteady Fluid Flow Problems in Complex Geometries
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, stable and efficient hybrid methods which combine high order finite difference methods and unstructured finite volume methods for time-dependent initial boundary value problems have been developed. The hybrid methods make it possible to combine the efficiency of the finite difference method and the flexibility of the finite volume method. LÄS MER
18. Difference methods with boundary and interface treatment for wave equations
Sammanfattning : Wave motion in acoustic and elastic media is highly influenced by the presence of outer boundaries and media interfaces. The solutions to the equations governing the wave motion at any point in the domain as a function of time can be sought either through analytical or numerical techniques. LÄS MER
19. Direct and Inverse Methods for Waveguides and Scattering Problems in the Time Domain
Sammanfattning : Numerical simulation is an important tool in understanding the electromagnetic field and how it interacts with the environment. Different topics for time-domain finite-difference (FDTD) and finite-element (FETD) methods for Maxwell's equations are treated in this thesis. LÄS MER
20. Gaussian structures and orthogonal polynomials
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers on the following topics in analysis and probability: analysis on Wiener space, asymptotic properties of orthogonal polynomials, and convergence rates in the central limit theorem. The first paper gives lower bounds on the constants in the Meyer inequality from the Malliavin calculus. LÄS MER
