1. Towards Systemic Governance of Critical Infrastructure Protection : State and Relevance of a Swedish Case
Sammanfattning : The protection of infrastructure that is critical to society’s functionality, survival and progression has gained significance for both national security and research because of its large-scale and interdependent nature. Critical infrastructure can be viewed as a complex, socio-technical system-of-systems that imposes extensive requirements on governance efforts to foster critical infrastructure protection (CIP), regardless of whether it involves public organisations, private organisations or both. 2. Information-Theoretic Generalization Bounds: Tightness and Expressiveness
Sammanfattning : Machine learning has achieved impressive feats in numerous domains, largely driven by the emergence of deep neural networks. Due to the high complexity of these models, classical bounds on the generalization error---that is, the difference between training and test performance---fail to explain this success. LÄS MER
3. Entropy, information theory and spatial input-output analysis
Sammanfattning : Interindustry transactions recorded at a macro level are simply summations of commodity shipment decisions taken at a micro level. The resulting statistical problem is to obtain minimally biased estimates of commodity flow distributions at the disaggregated level, given various forms of aggregated information. LÄS MER
4. Statistical Inference of Information in Networks : Causality and Directed Information Graphs
Sammanfattning : Over the last decades, the advancements in measurement, collection, and storage of data have provided tremendous amounts of information. Thus, it has become crucial to extract valuable features and analyze the characteristics of data. As we study more complex systems (e.g. LÄS MER
5. Information geometries in black hole physics
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we aim to develop new perspectives on the statistical mechanics of black holes using an information geometric approach (Ruppeiner and Weinhold geometry). The Ruppeiner metric is defined as a Hessian matrix on a Gibbs surface, and provides a geometric description of thermodynamic systems in equilibrium. LÄS MER
