21. Phase-field modeling of stress-induced precipitation and kinetics in engineering metals
Sammanfattning : The formation of brittle compounds in metals operating in corrosive environments can be a tremendous source of embrittlement for industrial structures and such phenomenon is commonly enhanced in presence of stresses. To study this type of microstructural change modeling is preferred to experiment to reduce costs and prevent undesirable environmental impacts. LÄS MER
22. Modelling and Characterisation of the Martensite Formation in Low Alloyed Carbon Steels
Sammanfattning : The current work contains experimental and theoretical work about the formation of martensite from the austenitic state of the steel Hardox 450. Simulation of rolling and subsequent quenching of martensitic steel plates requires a model that can account for previous deformation, current stresses and the temperature history, therefore dilatometry experiments were performed, with and without deformation. 23. Algorithmic Methods in Combinatorial Algebra
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of a collection of articles all using and/or developing algorithmic methods for the investigation of different algebraic structures. Part A concerns orthogonal decompositions of simple Lie algebras. The main result of this part is that the symplectic Lie algebra C3 has no orthogonal decomposition of so called monomial type. 24. Stereoelectronic effects in nucleosides and nucleotides
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on 12 original publications from 1994-98. Intramolecular stereoelectronicforces (anomeric and gauche effects), beside intermolecular forces such as hydrogen bonding, base stacking, electrostatics and hydration, have been found to be responsible for the localstructural changes of DNA and RNA and their components. 25. Dynamic Modelling of Physical Processes in Magmatic Systems: Dyke Emplacement and Flow-Induced Crystal Rotations
Sammanfattning : The main motivation for this thesis is to develop and improve numerical tools and methods that help further our comprehension of the volcanic plumbing system and its dynamics. The commonly used standard elastic model predicts solutions of dyke shape, thickness, over-pressure and fracturing criteria that do not always fit natural observations.
