  1. 21. Towards forecasting epigenetic repression

    Författare :Moa J. Lundkvist; Yuri B. Schwartz; Ludvig Lizana; Peter V. Kharchenko; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; epigenetics; Polycomb; PRC1; PRC2; H3K27 methylation; Monte-Carlo simulation; chromatin structure; Drosophila; molekylär bioteknik inst f molekylärbiologi ; molecular biotechnology dept of molecular biology ;

    Sammanfattning : Multicellular organisms form many different cell types from one genome, which requires differential gene activity. The Polycomb system upholds the correct gene expression programs by epigenetically silencing genes that encode critical transcription regulators. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Fewer kids not always by choice : the link between endocrine-disrupting chemicals and female reproductive health

    Författare :Richelle Duque Björvang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Fertility rates are declining from five children per woman in the 1950s to less than three children per woman in 2019. While this is partly due to women choosing to have fewer kids, there are growing evidence that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the environment may play a role in this phenomenon. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Genomic and transcriptomic investigation of reproductive incompatibility in Drosophila

    Författare :Guilherme Costa Baião; Lisa Klasson; Alistair Darby; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Wolbachia; Drosophila; Drosophila paulistorum; Differential Gene Expression; Reproductive Incompatibility; Reproductive Isolation; Comparative Genomics; Transcriptomics; RNA-Seq; Heteroplasmy; Mitochondria; Genomic conflict; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Both nuclear and cytoplasmic elements can contribute to the emergence of reproductive incompatibilities that influence evolution and speciation. In the projects that compose this thesis, we use genomics and transcriptomics to study some of those elements in Drosophila. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Assisted reproduction technology in men with ejaculatory dysfunction with special reference to spinal cord injury

    Författare :Claes Hultling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Men afflicted by spinal cord injury (SCI), myelomeningocele (MMC) and testicular cancer (TC) with retroperitoneal lymph-node dissection (RPLND) share the problem of infertility due mainly, but not exclusively, to neurologic impairment. This problem has historically been neglected, partly due to lack of effective treatment, partly due to lack of appreciation of the importance of sexual and procreational issues for rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life. 5. 25. Magnetic fields around massive protostars as traced by masers and dust emission

    Författare :Daria Dall` Olio; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic field – stars: formation – stars: massive – masers – dust – polarization – stars: individual: IRAS 18089-1732 – G9.62 0.19;

    Sammanfattning : It is not fully clear how the magnetic field acts during the first stages of star formation. A possible way to clarify its role is to observe the polarized light coming from masers and thermal dust emission. LÄS MER
