21. Towards forecasting epigenetic repression
Sammanfattning : Multicellular organisms form many different cell types from one genome, which requires differential gene activity. The Polycomb system upholds the correct gene expression programs by epigenetically silencing genes that encode critical transcription regulators. LÄS MER
22. Fewer kids not always by choice : the link between endocrine-disrupting chemicals and female reproductive health
Sammanfattning : Fertility rates are declining from five children per woman in the 1950s to less than three children per woman in 2019. While this is partly due to women choosing to have fewer kids, there are growing evidence that endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in the environment may play a role in this phenomenon. LÄS MER
23. Genomic and transcriptomic investigation of reproductive incompatibility in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : Both nuclear and cytoplasmic elements can contribute to the emergence of reproductive incompatibilities that influence evolution and speciation. In the projects that compose this thesis, we use genomics and transcriptomics to study some of those elements in Drosophila. LÄS MER
24. Assisted reproduction technology in men with ejaculatory dysfunction with special reference to spinal cord injury
Sammanfattning : Background: Men afflicted by spinal cord injury (SCI), myelomeningocele (MMC) and testicular cancer (TC) with retroperitoneal lymph-node dissection (RPLND) share the problem of infertility due mainly, but not exclusively, to neurologic impairment. This problem has historically been neglected, partly due to lack of effective treatment, partly due to lack of appreciation of the importance of sexual and procreational issues for rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life. 25. Magnetic fields around massive protostars as traced by masers and dust emission
Sammanfattning : It is not fully clear how the magnetic field acts during the first stages of star formation. A possible way to clarify its role is to observe the polarized light coming from masers and thermal dust emission. LÄS MER
