1. Electron - Ion Recombination Studies of Astrophysically Relevant Ions : Storage Ring and Electron Beam Ion Trap Based Measurements
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains experimental work that was performed at two state-of-the art devices for electron-ion collision physics, at a heavy-ion storage ring and at an Electron Beam Ion Trap. As a result, absolute recombination rate coefficients for H-like Si, He-like Si, Be-like Si, and Na-like Si, as well as Be-like Ne, Na-like S and Na-like Ar are reported over a wide energy range from μeV to keV. 2. Light’EM up! : structural characterization of light-driven membrane protein complexes by cryogenic electron microscopy
Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is probably the most important process for allowing life to develop into the diverse forms we see today. In this process, solar radiation is used to convert CO2 into biomass. From this process, we obtain oxygen to breathe, sources of food (plant biomass), and the potential for clean and sustainable energy. LÄS MER
3. Electron tomography and optical modelling for organic solar cells
Sammanfattning : Organic solar cells using carbon based materials have the potential to deliver cheap solar electricity. The aim is to be able to produce solar cells with common printing techniques on flexible substrates, and as organic materials can be made soluble in various solvents, they are well adapted to such techniques. 4. Efficiency Enhancement Techniques for Free-Electron Lasers
Sammanfattning : The central question addressed in this thesis is how to make the free-electron laser (FEL) more efficient. In recent years, coherent diffraction imaging provides an important motivation for efficiency enhancement. This is because a more efficient FEL process enables converting a larger fraction of the electron beam's power into optical power. LÄS MER
5. Non-metallic inclusions in pipeline steels and their effect on the corrosion resistance
Sammanfattning : This thesis focus on investigations of the influence of non-metallic inclusions on corrosion in steel samples taken at different stages of the steel production when producing pipeline steels. The electrolytic extraction technique was used to extract inclusions from these steel samples and thereafter studying them using scanning electron microscopy in combination with energy dispersive microscopy.
