16. Extending Photoinduced Charge Separation. Molecular-semiconductor assemblies for solar energy conversion
Sammanfattning : The conversion of solar energy into chemical energy by harvesting visible-light with synthetic molecules presents several scientific and technological challenges. This thesis is dedicated to the investigation of approaches to long-lived charge separation, one of the crucial aspects for the photochemical generation of solar fuels. LÄS MER
17. Photoinduced Electron Transfer in Luminescent Lanthanide Complexes
Sammanfattning : Luminescence from the trivalent lanthanides is used for detection in biological systems. Lanthanide luminescence is usually sensitized by a light-harvesting organic chromophore (’antenna’). An ideal emitter has an antenna that efficiently transfers energy to the lanthanide, and a ligand that shields the metal from quenching solvent molecules. LÄS MER
18. Electron-lattice dynamics in π-conjugated systems
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the dynamics in π-conjugated hydrocarbon systems. Due to the molecular bonding structure of these systems there exists a coupling between the electronic system and the phonons of the lattice. LÄS MER
19. Dynamics of Excitation Transfer and Charge Separation in Polymeric Semiconductors
Sammanfattning : Dynamics of optically excited electronic states have been studied in solid films and solutions of semiconducting polymers and model compounds. Transient absorption, monitored in the spectral range from 0.9 eV to 2.5 eV with a time resolution of about 100 fs, was the main experimental technique. LÄS MER
20. Regulation of proton-coupled electron transfer in cytochrome c oxidase : The role of membrane potential, proton pathways and ATP
Sammanfattning : Cytochrome c oxidase (CytcO) is the final electron acceptor of the respiratory chain. In this chain a current of electrons, derived from degradation of nutrients, along with protons, are used to reduce oxygen to water. The reaction is exergonic and the excess energy is used to pump protons across the membrane. LÄS MER
