21. Fiber-Optic Systems with Coherent Detection and Four-Dimensional Modulation
Sammanfattning : To increase the data rates of fiber-optic communication systems, modulation formats withhigher spectral efficiency and/or higher power efficiency than binary formats are of greatinterest. These formats require coherent detection and this thesis has been dedicated toinvestigating both novel modulation formats and two different types of coherent systems. LÄS MER
22. Exploring the genomic and transcriptomic landscape of immune cells in multiple sclerosis : towards better biomarkers, diagnosis and treatment
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine the changes in gene regulation taking place in immune cells during the course of Multiple Sclerosis. Over 200 MS-associated SNPs have been identified from GWAS studies. LÄS MER
23. Molecular evolutionary studies of genome degradation in bacteria
Sammanfattning : The genus Rickettsia belongs to the α-proteobacteria and consists of obligate intracellular bacteria, which often are pathogenic for humans. All Rickettsia have small genomes, highly adapted to an intracellular lifestyle. LÄS MER
24. Regional differences in the response of neural stem cells and their microenvironment to ionizing radiation
Sammanfattning : Radiation therapy is one of the most effective tools for treating malignant tumors; however, cranial irradiation often results in intellectual impairment and cognitive deficits, such as impaired learning and memory. Ionizing radiation generates DNA damage, causing proliferative cells to undergo apoptosis. LÄS MER
25. Genome wide analysis of the Ssn6-Tup11/Tup12 co-repressor complex in the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe
Sammanfattning : In this study, we have investigated the fission yeast Ssn6-Tup11 /Tup 12 transcriptional corepressor which is involved in regulation of many genes important for a wide variety of processes. In contrast to the well characterised budding yeast Tup1 protein there are two paralogous proteins present in fission yeast, namely Tup11 and Tup12. LÄS MER
