11. Faecal Microbiota Transfer in Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Collagenous Colitis : Clinical outcomes and host-microbe interactions
Sammanfattning : Faecal microbiota transfer (FMT) aims at restoring a disturbed gut microbiotaby introducing faecal material from a healthy donor into a patient’s intestine. This approach is known as a safe and effective treatment in patients with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection. LÄS MER
12. On the role of bile acids in chronic diarrhoea
Sammanfattning : Bile acids which promote lipid absorption are actively reabsorbed in the distal ileum. Bile acid malabsorption (BAM) and microscopic colitis (lymphocytic and collagenous) are both associated with chronic watery diarrhoea. LÄS MER
13. Epidemiological aspects of microscopic colitis
Sammanfattning : Microscopic colitis (MC) constitutes the main entities collagenous colitis (CC) and lymphocytic colitis (LC), diseases that are relatively recently described (in 1976 and 1989, respectively). The aims of this thesis were to study the epidemiology of MC, to describe how these diseases affect patients in terms of symptom burden and health-related quality of life (HRQoL), to study potential risk factors such as familial factors, childhood circumstances, educational level, marital status, smoking and comorbidity, and to describe a cohort of patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn’s disease (CD) and subsequent MC, and vice versa. 14. Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases : studies of microbiota and its influence
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Inflammatory bowel diseases are becoming increasingly common. The underlying mechanisms are not entirely known but the gut microbiota seem to be involved in the pathogenesis. LÄS MER
15. Bile Acid Induced Diarrhoea Pathophysiological and Clinical Aspects
Sammanfattning : A common cause for referral to gastroenterologists is chronic watery diarrhoea. Approximately 40% of these patients have idiopathic bile acid malabsorption (BAM) ? a condition with unknown aetiology. The 75SeHCAT test, which correlates inversely with faecal excretion and hepatic synthesis of bile acids, is used to diagnose BAM. LÄS MER
