21. Microarray gene expression in immunological conditions
Sammanfattning : The use of microarray techniques for gene expression analysis provides a global view of the transcriptional activity in a biological sample. In this thesis two conditions accompanied by disturbance in the immune system are addressed following the changes in gene expression. LÄS MER
22. Growth hormones in chronic kidney disease
Sammanfattning : Several hormonal systems are disrupted in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and disturbances of the growth hormone axis could contribute to increased morbidity and mortality through effects on cardiovascular health, energy metabolism and inflammation. The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge about hormonal alterations and their consequences in CKD, focusing on cardiovascular disease (CVD), mortality and the growth hormone axis in end-stage renal disease. 23. Measuring quality of occupational performance based on self-report and observation : development and validation of instruments to evaluate ADL task performance
Sammanfattning : Background People with rheumatic or neurologic conditions are commonly referred for occupational therapy because of decreased ability to perform ADL tasks. Upon referral, occupational therapists use a client-centred, occupationfocused approach when evaluating a person's perceived and observed quality of ADL task performance to clarify the nature and extent of the person’s problems, plan interventions and determine effectiveness of interventions. 24. Mechanisms of excitability in the central and peripheral nervous systems : Implications for epilepsy and chronic pain
Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis concerns mechanisms of excitability of neurons. Specifically, it deals with how neurons respond to input, and how their response is controlled by ion channels and other active components of the neuron. LÄS MER
25. Salivary biomarkers in chronic muscle pain
Sammanfattning : Background: Muscle related temporomandibular disorders (TMD myalgia), one of the most common orofacial pain conditions, is characterized by facial pain and often accompanied by jaw movement limitations. Although the underlying biological mechanisms are still unclear, a cluster of proteins and peptides is assumed may mirror the pathophysiology. LÄS MER
