  1. 1. The effect on chromosomal stability of some dietary constituents

    Författare :Louise Durling; Per Eriksson; Jan Alexander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Biology; Genotoxicity; chromosomal stability; heterocyclic amines; furan; HMF; folic acid; micronucleus test; comet assay; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : When food is heated, a vast number of compounds are formed. Some of these are known to be toxic. Among these are furan, HMF, PhIP, IQ, and MeIQx, the subjects of this thesis. All these compounds are known or suspected carcinogens but the detailed mechanisms behind their carcinogenicity have not yet been fully examined. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The Smc5/6 complex : the mysterious guardian of genome stability

    Författare :Davide G Berta; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : An intricate network of proteins ensures the faithful transmission of genetic information through cell generations. The Structural Maintenance of Chromosomes (SMC) protein complex family plays a pivotal role in maintaining genome stability. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Exposure, telomere length, and cancer risk

    Författare :Huiqi Li; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exposure; telomere; methylation; chromosomal aberration; cancer risk; rubber fumes; arsenic; welding fumes; diesel exhaust; particulate matter;

    Sammanfattning : Telomeres are tandem repeats of TTAGGG at the end of eukaryotic chromosomes. Telomeres play a key role in chromosome stability and regulation of the cellular lifespan. Telomeres are shortened during cell division, and probably, by not yet well characterised factors in the environment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Identification of protein signatures of genomic stability/instability in epithelial cancers

    Författare :Timo Gemoll; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Aneuploidy is a consistent genetic alteration of the cancer genome. At early steps in the sequence of malignant transformation during human tumorigenesis, chromosomal aneuploidies can be the first detectable genetic aberrations found. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mitotic failure and genome stability in benign, premalignant and malignant human tissues

    Författare :Rüdiger G Steinbeck; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :aneuploidy; CDF; clonal selection; DNA content; image microphotometry; interphase; microsection; nondisjunction; unbalanced telophase;

    Sammanfattning : Mitotic failure may occur throughout the human lifespan. Individual nuclear mistakes will escape detection within the mass of somatic cells. The probability of nondetection increases with progression in development. LÄS MER
