  1. 1. Chlamydia trachomatis as a risk factor for infertility in women and men, and ovarian tumor development

    Författare :Annika Idahl; Ulrika Ottander; Jan I Olofsson; Eva Lundin; Fredrik Elgh; Jorma Paavonen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibodies; borderline tumors; Chlamydia trachomatis; cHSP60; DNA; infertility; ovarian cancer; pregnancy rate; RNA; semen characteristics; Obstetrics and gynaecology; Obstetrik och gynekologi; obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Chlamydia trachomatis in women is a risk factor for tubal factor infertility and extra uterine pregnancies, but the impact of a C. trachomatis infection on male fertility is unclear. It is also hypothesized that persistent infection with C. trachomatis, or other microorganisms, might initiate/promote ovarian tumor development. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tumor radiosensitivity and proliferation as parameters for optimizing radiotherapy

    Författare :Mattias Hedman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Radiotherapy is a widely used method to treat malignant tumors. However, the sensitivity to the treatment varies between tumors, and local tumor control is not always achieved. The balance between treatment success and the side effects of the treatment affords important information for developing treatment schedules at patient population level. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intrinsic subtypes and prognostic implications in epithelial ovarian cancer

    Författare :Jenny-Maria Jönsson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ovarian cancer; gene expression profiling; Lynch syndrome; targeted deep sequencing; chromatin remodeling; molecular subtypes; endocrine receptors; prognostic factors; tumor heterogeneity;

    Sammanfattning : Ovarian cancer is the seventh most common cancer in women globally, with approximately 240,000 new cases annually. Although a rare disease, it is the most lethal gynecologic malignancy. Unspecific symptoms result in late diagnosis and a generally poor prognosis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fertility-sparing surgery in young women with ovarian cancer and borderline ovarian tumors

    Författare :Gry Johansen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Based on the cell origin of the tumor, ovarian cancer (OC) is divided in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), including borderline ovarian tumors (BOT), and nonepithelial ovarian cancer (NEOC), which includes sex cord stromal tumors and malignant ovarian germ cell tumors. Each subgroup contains several histological subtypes of varying malignant potential and prognosis. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Borderline and locally advanced pancreatic cancer : redefining the biological and technical profile of the disease

    Författare :Elena Rangelova; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Surgery is the only treatment modality that provides a chance for long-term survival in pancreatic cancer (PC). Thus, the current classification systems for PC are technically skewed to predicted the probability for surgical resection, and not adapted for tumor biology. LÄS MER
