  1. 1. Modeling glioblastoma heterogeneity to decipher its biology

    Författare :Yuan Xie; Lene Uhrbom; Massimo Squatrito; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Glioblastoma multiforme; biobank; GBM cells; cell of origin; LGR5; OPCs;

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and lethal form of primary brain tumor that mainly affects adults. GBM displays remarkable intra- and inter-tumoral heterogeneity and contains a subpopulation of cells named glioma stem cells that is believed to be responsible for tumor maintenance, progression and recurrence. 2. 2. Tumor cell heterogeneity profiling using single-cell analysis

    Författare :Emma Jonasson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tumor heterogeneity; single-cell analysis; cancer stem cells;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a diverse disease with large variations between tumor types and patients regarding tumor progression and prognosis. Additionally, most individual tumors are heterogeneous, containing subpopulations of cells with various characteristics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Somatic Genetic Variation in Children: from Mosaicism to Cancer

    Författare :Anders Valind; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Somatic Mosaicism; Cancer; Tumor heterogeneity; Neuroblastoma; Wilms Tumor; Rhabdomyosarcoma; Aneuploidy;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns various aspects of somatic mosaicism and genetic intratumor heterogeneity in childhood cancer.In paper I, I show that aneuploidy in itself does not lead to the level of chromosomal instability that is typically seen in malignant cells. This finding strongly argues against the so called autocatalytic theory of carcinogenesis. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Ultrasound-assisted Interactions of Natural Killer Cells with Cancer Cells and Solid Tumors

    Författare :Athanasia Christakou; Martin Wiklund; Sabeth Verpoorte; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Natural killer cell; cytotoxicity; heterogeneity; multiwell microchip; biocompatibility; ultrasonic cell manipulation; 3D cell culture; solid tumor; spheroid; high-resolution imaging; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In this Thesis, we have developed a microtechnology-based method for culturing and visualizing high numbers of individual cells and cell-cell interactions over extended periods of time. The foundation of the device is a silicon-glass multiwell microplate (also referred as microchip) directly compatible with fluorescence microscopy. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Integrative modeling of intratumoral heterogeneity, plasticity and regulation in nervous system cancers

    Författare :Ida Larsson; Sven Nelander; Fredrik Swartling; Patrik Johansson; Itay Tirosh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nervous system cancer; Glioblastoma; Heterogeneity; Plasticity; Mathematical modeling; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The adult brain tumor glioblastoma (GBM) is characterized by short survival and a lack of efficient treatments. Median survival is 15 months from time of diagnosis and the 5-year survival rate is only 7 %. LÄS MER
