31. Water in and on ionic materials : Structure, energetics, and vibrations
Sammanfattning : Many chemical and physical phenomena in nature, in industrial processes, and in our daily lives take place at water/solid interfaces. The aim of this thesis is to further our knowledge of such processes at a molecular level. LÄS MER
32. Corrosion of steel bars in fibre reinforced concrete: corrosion mechanisms and structural performance
Sammanfattning : The viability of employing fibre reinforcement to improve the durability performance of RC structures by delaying and/or reducing rebar corrosion and by mitigating the structural impact of corrosion-induced damage have been investigated. Given the enhanced crack control of FRC, it could be advantageous to use fibres in civil engineering structures to decrease the ingress of corrosion-initiation substances. LÄS MER
33. Total Energy Calculations for Predictive Modeling of Crystalline Materials Strength
Sammanfattning : Materials properties depend on phenomena in a hierarchical order from atomic to macroscopic scales. This thesis studies possibilities for electron-structure and total-energy calculations to provide results that are valuable for the modeling of crystalline materials strength. LÄS MER
34. The shear plate dowel joint : Research on a novel connection for heavy timber structures
Sammanfattning : An increased use of wood can reduce the environmental footprint of the building sector. In order to improve the competitiveness of heavy timber structures, the thesis presents a novel type of timber connection with a high degree of prefabrication. LÄS MER
35. Two-dimensional Nanocomposites Based on Cellulose Nanofibrils and Graphene Oxide
Sammanfattning : Two-dimensional (2D) nanocomposites based on cellulose nanofibrils (CNF) and 2D nanomaterials are of interest as sustainable materials combining functional and structural properties. To achieve reinforcement effects from 2D nanomaterials, their orientation and dispersion state in the CNF matrix are important. LÄS MER
