  1. 1. The bicuspid aortic valve and thoracic aortic disease

    Författare :Carl Granath; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : About 1% of the population is born with an aortic valve composed of only two cusps, called a bicuspid aortic valve. Bicuspid aortic valve is associated with a high risk of both aortic valve disease and ascending aortic dilatation, which develop at a significantly earlier age than in patients with a normal tricuspid aortic valve. 2. 2. Cardiovascular risk factors in aortic stenosis

    Författare :Johan Ljungberg; Stefan Söderberg; Bengt Johansson; Peter Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Valvular heart disease; aortic stenosis; bicuspid aortic valve; cardiovascular risk factors; hypertension; diabetes mellitus; smoking; hypercholesterolemia; obesity; shrunken pore; renal failure; Epidemiology; epidemiologi; Cardiology; kardiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common hemodynamic significant valvular heart disease and affects about 2% of the population. The incidence increases with age. When symptoms of the stenotic aortic valve disease eventually occur the 2-year mortality exceeds 50%. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Vascular function in bicuspid aortic valve disease

    Författare :Johan Petrini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aortic valve normally consists of three cusps (tricuspid aortic valve, TAV), but in 0.5-2% of the population it consists of only two cusps (bicuspid aortic valve, BAV), which is the most common congenital cardiac malformation. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Signs of inflammation in different types of heart valve disease : The VOCIN study

    Författare :Lars Wallby; Lena Jonasson; Mats Broqvist; Mårten Rosenqvist; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart valve dysfunction; heart valve disease; VOCIN study group; aortic valves; Gross valvular pathology; Cariology; Cariologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heart valve dysfunction is a relatively common condition in the population, whereas significant heart valve disease is more unusual. The cause of different types of heart valve disease depends on which valve is concerned. Rheumatic heart valve disease, has for a long time been considered to constitute a post-inflammatory condition. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Bicuspid aortic valve-associated aortopathy unraveling the molecular signature

    Författare :Valentina Paloschi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) have an increased risk of developing ascending aortic aneurysm compared with individuals with a tricuspid aortic valve (TAV). A crucial factor involved in vascular remodeling during aneurysm development is transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and impaired signaling of this pathway can alter important extracellular matrix (ECM) protein such us fibronectin and collagen and thereby explaining the increased aneurysm susceptibility of BAV patients.
