  1. 11. Studies on catecholamine function in human fat cells

    Författare :Lena Hellström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adipose tissue; human; catecholamines; lipolysis; adrenoceptors; mRNAhormone-sensitive lipase; hypo-caloric diet; thyroid hormones.;

    Sammanfattning : Human adipose tissue is a heterogeneous organ as regards metabolism. The effects of catecholamines, the main lipolytic hormones in man vary considerably in different regions. Fat cell lipolysis also changes in a number of physiological and pathophysiological states. LÄS MER

  2. 12. On the mechanisms of action of atypical antipsychotic drugs : an experimental study

    Författare :Peter Hertel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :antipsychotic drugs; dopamine; serotonin; medial prefrontal cortex; dorsal raphe nucleus; risperidone; clozapine; idazoxan; [alpha]2 adrenoceptors; conditioned avoidance; catalepsy;

    Sammanfattning : A majority of schizophrenic patients respond to classical neuroleptic drugs which are believed to act largely via blockade of dopamine (DA) D2 receptors in limbic structures. However, a significant proportion do not respond to conventional D2 receptor blocking drugs or show a rather incomplete therapeutic effect, particularly on negative and cognitive symptoms. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Applications of microdialysis in studies of the adrenergic regulation of lipolysis in human skeletal muscle and adipose tissue

    Författare :Staffan Enoksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human; in vivo; microdialysis; ethanol technique; lipolysis; blood flow; microcirculation; skeletal muscle; adipose tissue; adrenoceptors; insulin; forskolin; adenylyl cyclase; phosphodiesterases; glycerol; lactate.;

    Sammanfattning : Lipolysis, i.e., hydrolysis of triaeylglycerol to free fatty acids and glycerol, is a central process in lipid metabolism, and the regulation of lipid metabolism is altered in several common disorders, such as diabetes, obesity and atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Metabolic and endocrine function of human adipose tissue with focus on regional differences

    Författare :Vanessa van Harmelen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :acylation stimulating protein; adipocytes; adipose tissue heterogeneity; adrenoceptors; insulin; leptin; lipogenesis; lipolysis; noradrenaline; plasminogen activator inhibitor-1; preadipocytes; tumour necrosis factor-cc;

    Sammanfattning : The major function of human adipose tissue is to store excess ingested energy and to release free fatty acids after hydrolysis of triglycerides (lipolysis), to meet the energy demands of other organs. Adipose tissue also has a secretory function. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Conctraction-mediating receptors in human peripheral vessels with special reference to veins and lymphatics

    Författare :Trygve Sjöberg; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human; arteries; veins; lymphatis; contraction; in vitro; in vivo; adrenergic receptors; noradrenaline; cirazoline; phenylephrine; clonidine; calcium antagonists; nifedipine; diltiazem; prostaglandins; thromboxane A2; U-46619; BM-13.505; indomethacin;

    Sammanfattning : By means of a myograph, postjunctional alpha-adrenoceptors were characterized in human superficial epigastric arteries and veins obtained from health subjects. The rank order of potency of subtype selective agonists could not be used for receptor characterization in these vessels, whereas antagonists gave distinct results. LÄS MER
