  1. 1. Mining Web Logs to Improve User Experience in Web Search

    Författare :Libertad Tansini; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Web log mining; web search; user intent; user recommendation; user modelling;

    Sammanfattning : The World Wide Web continues to grow in size and diversity and this makes it increasinglyhard for users to find valuable information because of heterogeneous form and contentof the documents, little knowledge about the reliability and prestige of the documents anda great deal of redundancy.Usually search engines look for documents that contain specific keywords or phrasesstated by the users as queries. 2. 2. Subject retrieval in web-based library catalogs

    Författare :Koraljka Golub; Jadranka Lasić-Lazić; Department of Information Science Filozofski fakultet u Zagrebu; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; British university libraries; Croatian university libraries; Indexing and retrieval systems; Online library catalogs; Subject access points; Subject retrieval; User interface; User search behavior; WebPACs; Library and Information Science; Biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has been motivated by past research, problems and realizations that online library catalog users frequently perform subject searches – using keywords, subject headings and descriptors – and these searches have yielded unsatisfactory results. Web-based catalogs or WebPACs (Web-based Online Public Access Catalogs), belonging to the so-called third generation of online catalogs and providing a wide variety of search options, remain largely underutilized despite the continuous advancement of information retrieval systems.     Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Decision support; visualization; dynamic decision-making; naval warfare; expanding search area; field of safe travel; search task; evasion task; ecological interface; anti-submarine warfare; constraints; flaming datum; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap; Ledningsvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates a decision aid to support tasks where there is an initial sighting of an object and then the decision maker has to guide some vehicles, either to reestablish contact with the lost object or to stay clear of it. As such, the tasks are analogous to naval search and evasion tasks. LÄS MER

    Författare :Mario Romero; Gregory Abowd; Georgia Institute of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ubiquitous computing; Information visualization; Computer vision; User studies; Human-computer interaction; Interactive art; Performance art; Human-computer Interaction; Människa-datorinteraktion;

    Sammanfattning : Many disciplines spend considerable resources studying behavior. Tools range from pen-and-paper observation to biometric sensing. A tool's appropriateness depends on the goal and justification of the study, the observable context and feature set of target behaviors, the observers' resources, and the subjects' tolerance to intrusiveness.
