1. Food Web Ecology -- individual life-histories and ecological processes shape complex communities
Sammanfattning : This thesis sets out a food web framework for size-structured populations. The framework enables an ecological approach to food web modelling as the individual life-history from birth, through maturation, and ultimately death is explicitly resolved with the use of bioenergetics based on individual body size. 2. Towards understanding stable isotope signatures in stressed systems
Sammanfattning : Stable isotope analysis (SIA) is a valuable tool in ecotoxicology because δ13C and δ15N may provide insights into the trophic transfer of contaminants in a food web. The relationship between a species’ trophic position (TP, determined from δ15N) and internal concentration of biomagnifying contaminants can be established and used for regulatory purposes. LÄS MER
3. Interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and vegetation in the Fennoscandian tundra
Sammanfattning : I have, in this thesis, studied the interactions between gray-sided voles (Clethrionomys rufocanus) and tundra vegetation, on islands in, and mainland sites close to the lake Iešjávri, in northern Norway. As isolated islands are virtually free of predation, I have been able to compare plant-herbivore interactions in the presence and absence of predators. LÄS MER
4. Ecological niche dynamic, lessons from plankton
Sammanfattning : Abiotic conditions shape biological communities around the globe. Through spatial and temporal heterogeneity, environments impact plankton physiology, phenology and distribution. LÄS MER
5. Arthropods in Constructed Wetlands : Ecosystem Processes and Riparian Biodiversity
Sammanfattning : Constructed wetlands in the agricultural landscape are known to harbor immense arthropod biodiversity, however, riparian arthropod communities have often been neglected compared to aquatic communities when studying environmental responses. These wetlands are highly productive, but vary in form and composition based on its purpose, which influences the communities that inhabit them. LÄS MER
