  1. 1. Experimental data and Total Monte Carlo : Towards justified, transparent and complete nuclear data uncertainties

    Författare :Petter Helgesson; Henrik Sjöstrand; Arjan Koning; Stephan Pomp; Dimitri Rochman; Klaes-Håkan Bejmer; Denise Neudecker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The applications of nuclear physics are many with one important being nuclear power, which can help decelerating the climate change. In any of these applications, so-called nuclear data (ND, numerical representations of nuclear physics) is used in computations and simulations which are necessary for, e.g., design and maintenance. Sammanfattning : Carbon nanotubes have been envisioned to become a very important material in various applications. This is due to the unique properties of carbon nanotubes which can be exploited in applications on length scales spanning from the nano world to our macroscopic world. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On Monte Carlo Operators for Studying Collisional Relaxation in Toroidal Plasmas

    Författare :Qaisar Mukhtar; Torbjörn Hellsten; Tainia Kurki-Suonio; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns modelling of Coulomb collisions in toroidal plasma with Monte Carlo operators, which is important for many applications such as heating, current drive and collisional transport in fusion plasmas. Collisions relax the distribution functions towards local isotropic ones and transfer power to the background species when they are perturbed e. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dosimetry Studies of Different Radiotherapy Applications using Monte Carlo Radiation Transport Calculations

    Författare :Shirin Abbasinejad Enger; Hans Lundqvist; Anders Ahnesjö; Irena Gudowska; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Developing radiation delivery systems for optimisation of absorbed dose to the target without normal tissue toxicity requires advanced calculations for transport of radiation. In this thesis absorbed dose and fluence in different radiotherapy applications were calculated by using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Verification of Dose Calculation Algorithms in Treatment Planning Systems for External Radiation Therapy: A Monte Carlo Approach

    Författare :Elinore Wieslander; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiotherapy; dose calculation algorithm; verification; Monte Carlo calculation; electron beam; photon beam; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; treatment planning system;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a new verification concept, the virtual accelerator, for dose calculation algorithms used in treatment planning systems (TPSs) for external beam radiotherapy. The algorithm input data required to implement a treatment unit in the TPS are generated by Monte Carlo simulations as are the beam reference data needed for the subsequent evaluation of the dose calculation algorithm.
