  1. 1. Patient Outcomes after Radiotherapy of Prostate Cancer. Impact of Absorbed Dose and Treated Volume

    Författare :Elisabeth Rasmusson; LUCC: Lunds universitets cancercentrum; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostate cancer diagnosis; radiotherapy; brachytherapy; external beam; Dose- response; side effects; erectile dysfunction; lymphedema; hip osteoarthritis; Fractionation;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Backgound Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men in Sweden. Radiotherapy, including external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) and brachytherapy (BT), is important treatment alternatives to surgery and active surveillance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Verification of Dose Calculation Algorithms in Treatment Planning Systems for External Radiation Therapy: A Monte Carlo Approach

    Författare :Elinore Wieslander; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiotherapy; dose calculation algorithm; verification; Monte Carlo calculation; electron beam; photon beam; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; treatment planning system;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a new verification concept, the virtual accelerator, for dose calculation algorithms used in treatment planning systems (TPSs) for external beam radiotherapy. The algorithm input data required to implement a treatment unit in the TPS are generated by Monte Carlo simulations as are the beam reference data needed for the subsequent evaluation of the dose calculation algorithm. 3. 3. Patient Positioning in Radiotherapy Using Body Surface Scanning

    Författare :Kenneth Wikström; Anders Ahnesjö; Sven Bäck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiotherapy; positioning; body surface; laser scanning; cancer; SGRT; ITV; lung cancer; surrogate; tumour motion; 4DCT; Medicinsk radiofysik; Medical Radiophysics;

    Sammanfattning : External radiotherapy uses ionising radiation to damage the DNA of the tumour cells and thereby inhibit their uncontrolled proliferation. The technical development regarding imaging and visualisation for radiotherapy has increased considerably during the last decades. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Dosimetry and radiation quality in fast-neutron radiation therapy : A study of radiation quality and basic dosimetric properties of fast-neutrons for external beam radiotherapy and problems associated with corrections of measured charged particle cross-sections

    Författare :Jonas Söderberg; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Crister Ceberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neutron; Dosimetry; Radiotherapy; Monte Carlo; Microdosimetry; Cross-section; RBE; LET; Energy-loss corrections; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Sammanfattning : The dosimetric properties of fast-neutron beams with energies ≤80 MeV were explored using Monte Carlo techniques. Taking into account transport of all relevant types of released charged particles (electrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He and α particles) pencil-beam dose distributions were derived and used to calculate absorbed dose distributions. 5. 5. Dosimetry Studies of Different Radiotherapy Applications using Monte Carlo Radiation Transport Calculations

    Författare :Shirin Abbasinejad Enger; Hans Lundqvist; Anders Ahnesjö; Irena Gudowska; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; External Beam Radiotherapy; Gadolinium Neutron Capture Therapy; Gadolinium Neutron Capture Brachytherapy; Targeted Radionuclide therapy; Detector Response Modelling; Monte Carlo Simulation.; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Developing radiation delivery systems for optimisation of absorbed dose to the target without normal tissue toxicity requires advanced calculations for transport of radiation. In this thesis absorbed dose and fluence in different radiotherapy applications were calculated by using Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. LÄS MER
