6. Importance of serotonin-related candidate genes for human behaviour
Sammanfattning : Family and twin studies have been consistent in demonstrating that genetic factors are involved in the etiology of most major psychiatric disorders, as well as in various normal personality traits. Mostly due to the efficacy of serotonin-acting drugs, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) and tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), the neurotransmitter serotonin has been implicated in a variety of common psychiatric disorders, including depression, a spectrum of anxiety disorders, and premenstrual dysphoria; moreover, some studies have suggested that also personality is influenced by serotonin. 7. Neurobiological markers for personality, inflammation and stress: A naturalistic study in knee arthroplastic patients
Sammanfattning : Background: Psychiatry has strived to identify biomarkers elucidating the underlying biological mechanisms behind different disorders, to help in diagnostics and to assess treatment effects. In forensic psychiatric populations, findings have connected levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) monoamine metabolites and blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity with impulsivity and aggression. LÄS MER
8. Reliability, replicability and reproducibility in PET imaging
Sammanfattning : Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a non-invasive biomedical imaging method which can quantify biochemical markers as well as functional and metabolic activity in vivo. Following image analysis, quantification can be performed using various pharmacokinetic models, or using simplified semi-quantitative methods. LÄS MER

10. Platelet serotonin function and personality traits in affective disorder
Sammanfattning : Serotonin (5-HT, 5-hydroxytryptamine) is a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system which has been implicated m the aetiology and pathogenesis of affective disorders like depression and anxiety disorders. The serotonergic system has been shown to be involved in the modulation of mood, sleep, appetite, libido, energy and cognition and memory functions. LÄS MER
