11. Immunogenetics of Childhood Type 1 Diabetes in Immigrant Patients in Sweden. Migration Studies on Type 1 Diabetes
Sammanfattning : This thesis examined whether the offspring of immigrants (non-Swedes) to Sweden are at increased risk of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when they are born or live in Sweden. It also evaluated if their T1D and T2D-related genes differed from Swedish patients and whether this genetic heritage determined the types and existence of islet autoantibodies at time of diagnosis and affected the classification of diabetes. 12. Regulatory T cells in type 1 diabetes: the role of IL-35 in counteracting the disease
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is etiologically considered as an autoimmune disease, where insulin-producing β-cells are damaged by autoimmune attacks. Regulatory T (Treg) cells are immune homeostasis cells. In the present thesis I aimed to investigate the role of Treg cells and other immune cells in the early development of T1D. LÄS MER
13. A study of biomarker analysis in association with type 1 diabetes and their shared features in rheumatoid arthritis
Sammanfattning : Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is mediated by abnormal immune system (autoimmunity) that targeting specifically to self insulin-producing cells (β-cells). People with T1D require treatments based on life-long insulin substitution. LÄS MER
14. Genetics of diabetic subtypes
Sammanfattning : There are two major types of diabetes mellitus, Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D), however a number of subtypes have been defined and classified. Maternally Inherited Diabetes and Deafness (MIDD) and Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) are monogenic forms, whereas Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA) is thought to be a polygenic subtype similar to T1D. 15. Diabetes pathogenesis : role of natural killer cells, T cells and a novel neuropeptide
Sammanfattning : Diabetes is a major health problem affecting nearly 5% of the population world wide. It is a heterogeneous group of diseases with the autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the metabolic type 2 diabetes (T2D) being the major types. LÄS MER
