21. Phagostimulatory dynamics of adenine nucleotides in mosquitoes : advancing a taste-based delivery method for vector control agents
Sammanfattning : The mosquitoes Aedes aegypti and Anopheles gambiae are vectors of major medical importance, incriminated in over half a million lives lost annually. While there has been significant focus on understanding the olfaction mechanisms underlying host-seeking in mosquitoes for the development of odour-based control tools, little is known about the mechanisms underlying gustation in blood feeding, the ultimate behaviour in the change of events leading up to disease transmission. 22. Postcolonial perspective on international knowledge transfer and spillover to Indian news media : From institutional duality to third space
Sammanfattning : This thesis examines the ways in which postcolonial ambivalence – a symptomatic condition of postcolonial societies in which they simultaneously embrace and reject the cultural, political and economic processes and expressions of the “ex-colonizer” – plays out in current globalization. This dialectic may be particularly apparent in the transfer of knowledge from developed-country MNCs to subsidiaries located in formerly colonized, now developing countries. LÄS MER
23. Island-based Polygeneration Systems : On the Feasibility of Solar-Biomass-driven Distributed Concepts
Sammanfattning : The colossal risks and challenges posed by climate change require innovative solutions that must fulfil energy service demands sustainably. The concept of small-scale, biomass-based polygeneration (SBP) is one such technological approach, which optimizes locally supplied fuels to provide several energy services like electricity, heating, cooling, potable water, and/or bio-chemical products. 24. Evaluation of a metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty
Sammanfattning : Background: After the introduction of the Metasul system by Weber in 1988, total hip arthroplasty (THA) with metal-on-metal (MoM) bearings became increasingly popular in the 1990s. MoM bearings aimed to reduce the problem of aseptic loosening associated with polyethylene wear particles from conventional polyethylene cups. LÄS MER
25. Non-specific Low Back Pain - Classification and Treatment
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the effects of the Mc-Kenzie method of mechanical diagnosis and therapy compared with that of intensive dynamic strengthening training for patients with non-specific low back pain (NLBP), and to develop a clinical diagnostic classification system for use in primary care. The McKenzie method is one of the most common methods for examination and treatment of patients with NSLBP used by physiotherapists in the Western World. LÄS MER
