26. Three-Dimensional Metal-Semiconductor Heterostructures for Device Applications
Sammanfattning : Fabrication and characterisation of buried metal contacts in compound semiconductors are demonstrated. The contacts have been investigated due to their usage both as gates in transistors and as active or passive elements in novel devices. LÄS MER
27. Beyond scattering – what more can be learned from pulsed keV ion beams?
Sammanfattning : Interactions of energetic ions with matter govern processes as diverse as the influence of solar wind, hadron therapy for cancer treatment and plasma-wall interactions in fusion devices, and are used for controlled manipulation of materials properties as well as analytical methods. The scattering of ions from target nuclei and electrons does not only lead to energy deposition, but can induce the emission of different secondary particles including electrons, photons, sputtered target ions and neutrals as well as nuclear reaction products. 28. Resistivity and the solid-to-liquid transition in high-temperature superconductors
Sammanfattning : In high-temperature superconductors a large region of the magnetic phase diagram is occupied by a vortex phase that displays a number of exciting phenomena. At low temperatures, vortices form a truly superconducting solid phase which at high temperatures turns into a dissipative vortex liquid. LÄS MER
29. Consequences of a non-trivial band-structure topology in solids : Investigations of topological surface and interface states
Sammanfattning : The development and characterization of experimental setups for angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (SARPES) is described. Subsequently, the two techniques are applied to studies of the electronic band structure in topologically non-trivial materials. LÄS MER
30. Magnetic materials with tunable thermal, electrical, and dynamic properties : An experimental study of magnetocaloric, multiferroic, and spin-glass materials
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns and combines the results of experimental studies of magnetocaloric, multiferroic and spin-glass materials, using SQUID magnetometry as the main characteriza-tion technique. The magnetocaloric effect offers an interesting new technology for cooling and heating applications. LÄS MER
