  1. 26. Three-Dimensional Metal-Semiconductor Heterostructures for Device Applications

    Författare :Lars-Erik Wernersson; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schottky contacts; space-charge spectroscopy; ballistic transport; Coulomb repulsion; electron interference; resonant tunnelling; lateral confinement; heterojunction permeable base transistor; resonant tunnelling diodes; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Wernersson; Fysik; Physics; resonant tun; epitaxial overgrowth;

    Sammanfattning : Fabrication and characterisation of buried metal contacts in compound semiconductors are demonstrated. The contacts have been investigated due to their usage both as gates in transistors and as active or passive elements in novel devices. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Beyond scattering – what more can be learned from pulsed keV ion beams?

    Författare :Svenja Lohmann; Daniel Primetzhofer; Andreas Wucher; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Charge exchange; Deep UV photons; Electron emission; Silicon; Sputtering; TOF-MEIS; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Interactions of energetic ions with matter govern processes as diverse as the influence of solar wind, hadron therapy for cancer treatment and plasma-wall interactions in fusion devices, and are used for controlled manipulation of materials properties as well as analytical methods. The scattering of ions from target nuclei and electrons does not only lead to energy deposition, but can induce the emission of different secondary particles including electrons, photons, sputtered target ions and neutrals as well as nuclear reaction products. 3. 28. Resistivity and the solid-to-liquid transition in high-temperature superconductors

    Författare :Beatriz Espinosa Arronte; Magnus Andersson; Charles Simon; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; high-temperature superconductors; vortex dynamics; vortex solid-to-liquid transition; critical scaling; glass transition; Bose glass; heavy-ion irradiation; YBCO; Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8 d; oxygen deficiency.; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Sammanfattning : In high-temperature superconductors a large region of the magnetic phase diagram is occupied by a vortex phase that displays a number of exciting phenomena. At low temperatures, vortices form a truly superconducting solid phase which at high temperatures turns into a dissipative vortex liquid. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Consequences of a non-trivial band-structure topology in solids : Investigations of topological surface and interface states

    Författare :Magnus H. Berntsen; Oscar Tjernberg; Philip Hofmann; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy; time-of-flight analyzer; laser based light source; topological insulator; topological crystalline insulator; thin films; surface state; interface state; Bi2Se3; Pb1-xSnxSe;

    Sammanfattning : The development and characterization of experimental setups for angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (SARPES) is described. Subsequently, the two techniques are applied to studies of the electronic band structure in topologically non-trivial materials. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Magnetic materials with tunable thermal, electrical, and dynamic properties : An experimental study of magnetocaloric, multiferroic, and spin-glass materials

    Författare :Matthias Hudl; Per Nordblad; DD Sarma; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetocalorics; multiferroics; spin glasses; magnetization; polarization; spin-dimensionality; Fasta tillståndets fysik; Solid State Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns and combines the results of experimental studies of magnetocaloric, multiferroic and spin-glass materials, using SQUID magnetometry as the main characteriza-tion technique. The magnetocaloric effect offers an interesting new technology for cooling and heating applications.
