  1. 36. Optimization modeling of frequency reserves and inertia in the transition to a climate-neutral electricity system

    Författare :Jonathan Ullmark; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; generation expansion planning; frequency reserves; inertia; Energy system modeling; synthetic inertia; frequency control;

    Sammanfattning : The ongoing transition towards electricity production systems that are dominated by wind and solar power challenge both the traditional strategy for meeting a varying electricity demand and the traditional way of controlling the AC frequency of the electricity grid. This work investigates how frequency reserves (FR) and inertia, as well as inter-hourly variation management interact in the transition to a climate-neutral electricity system. LÄS MER

  2. 37. Quality Control of a Newsprint TMP Refining Process based on Refining Zone Temperature Measurements

    Författare :David Sikter; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; temperature profile; quality control; usability; economy; TMP refining;

    Sammanfattning : The ultimate goal of this study was to examine the possibility of using temperature measurements for control purposes in a TMP refining process. The study was carried out in a commercial refiner line at Holmen Paper’s Hallsta Mill, were the primary stage refiner was equipped with temperature sensors. LÄS MER

  3. 38. Experimental Studies on Using Butanol and Octanol Isomers as Drop-in Fuels for Diesel Engines

    Författare :Tankai Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing importance of transportation in modern societies has caused fossil fuel consumption to increase greatly in recent decades. However, burning fossil fuels in internal combustion engines can lead to high emissions of greenhouse gases, which cause climate change. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with engineers. It is an ethnographic study of the life organisation for seventeen engineers with Master's degrees working at two different workplaces, Automobile Inc. and Microchips Inc. The study is based on participant observation and life-history interviews. LÄS MER

  5. 40. Energy Performance and Manoeuvring Modelling of Inland Waterway Vessels

    Författare :Chengqian Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; confinement effect; inland waterways; manoeuvring prediction; autonomous vessels; ship hydrodynamics; energy efficiency;

    Sammanfattning : Inland waterway transport has significant potential to reduce greenhouse emissions and road congestion safely and sustainably. To construct competitive, intelligent waterborne transport networks, the use of advanced vessels with clean energy and a high degree of automation or autonomy is an ideal solution for next-generation transport.
