11. New methods for determination of airborne pollutants : Focus on tetrabromobisphenol A, organophosphate triesters and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development and evaluation of new methods of sampling and analysis of organic pollutants in the indoor and outdoor environment. In Paper I, the development of a new method was reported for the determination of the brominated flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in air using sampling with glass fiber filter and polyurethane foam (PUF), ultrasonic solvent extraction and liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS). 12. Biomarkers aiming at cancer risk estimation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
Sammanfattning : Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), a family of compounds that are formed in incomplete combustion of organic matter, occur as general pollutants in air and food. Exposure to PAH is, according to preliminary estimates, associated with non-acceptable cancer risks showing the need for improved data to be used in risk estimation. LÄS MER
13. Biodegradation of hydrocarbons in soil and water
Sammanfattning : Biodegradation of aliphatic and polycyclic aromatichydrocarbons was studied in soil and liquid cultures attemperatures ranging from -5 º C to 20 º C undervarious aerobic or anaerobic, nitrate reducing, conditions. Twocontaminated soils were used in the studies. LÄS MER
14. Traffic related air pollution with emphasis on particle associated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons : Tire wear and biodiesel exhaust emissions
Sammanfattning : Particulate matter (PM) is regarded as one of the more important components of air pollution causing adverse health effects. A large group of compounds associated with PM are polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) which comprises polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). LÄS MER
15. Semipermeable membrane devices as integrative tools for monitoring nonpolar aromatic compounds in air
Sammanfattning : Air pollutants pose a high risk for humans, and the environment, and this pollution is one of the major environmental problems facing modern society. Active air sampling is the technique that has been traditionally used to monitor nonpolar aromatic air pollutants. LÄS MER
