  1. 1. Electron Heating and Acceleration at Earth’s Collisionless Bow Shock

    Författare :Martin Lindberg; Andris Vaivads; Philippe Savoini; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Electron; heating; Acceleration; MMS; Shock; space; plasma; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Cosmic rays are ultra-relativistic particles traveling near the speed of light permeating the galaxy. Collisionless shock waves with their ubiquity throughout the universe and excellent capability of accelerating charged particles offer an explanation to the origin of cosmic rays. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Essays on Trade, Technology and the Organization of Firms

    Författare :Shon Ferguson; Rikard Forslid; Philippe Martin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; International Trade; Endogenous Technology; Research and Development; Quality Competition; Market Size; Comparative Advantage; Contract Enforcement; Vertical Integration; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : "Endogenous Sunk Costs, Exporting and Heterogeneous Firms" Empirical evidence shows that R&D spending is highly correlated with firm productivity and highly concentrated among large firms. This paper develops a model of quality competition with heterogeneous firms that can explain these patterns. The model makes two new predictions. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Development and three-dimensional histology of vertebrate dermal fin spines

    Författare :Anna Jerve; Per Erik Ahlberg; Martin Brazeau; Tatjana Haitina; Philippe Janvier; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fin spine; paleontology; early vertebrate; histology; development; Biology with specialization in Evolutionary Organismal Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot evolutionär organismbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Jawed vertebrates (gnathostomes) consist of two clades with living representatives, the chondricthyans (cartilaginous fish including sharks, rays, and chimaeras) and the osteichthyans (bony fish and tetrapods), and two fossil groups, the "placoderms" and "acanthodians". These extinct forms were thought to be monophyletic, but are now considered to be paraphyletic partly due to the discovery of early chondrichthyans and osteichthyans with characters that had been previously used to define them. 4. 4. Essays on International Trade : Theory and Evidence on the Determinants and Implications of Firms' Import Behaviour

    Författare :Evangelia Pateli; Rikard Forslid; Anders Åkerman; Philippe Martin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; international trade; extensive margins of trade; international sourcing; hierarchical sorting; information spillovers; devaluations; intermediate import dependence; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aspires to further contribute to our understanding of both the determinants as well as the implications of intermediate goods trade. Faced with intensifying global competition, firms are increasingly developing their production process and their sourcing strategies beyond national borders in order to take advantage of lower costs, superior quality and technological advances. 5. 5. Designing Quinone-based Organic Batteries

    Författare :Christian Strietzel; Martin Sjödin; Philippe Poizot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conducting polymers; organic electronics; quinones; organic battery; electrochemistry; Engineering Science with specialization in Nanotechnology and Functional Materials; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot nanoteknologi och funktionella material;

    Sammanfattning : The demand for secondary energy storage is ever increasing, being at the forefront of the transformation to a sustainable society. Conventional batteries, whose electrode materials require mining and high temperature refining, generate substantial carbon dioxide emissions during production. LÄS MER
