6. Molecular basis and structural determinants for the cellular localization of cytochrome P450 2E1
Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is the alcohol inducible member of the P450 family and has a role in gluconeogenesis under fasting conditions. However, CYP2E1 is mainly of toxicological significance and metabolizes xenobiotics to their carcinogenic and toxic metabolites and generates active oxygen species that can cause lipid peroxidation and apoptosis, processes observed in alcoholic liver disease (ALD). 7. On Fusidic Acid Resistance in Staphylococcus Aureus
Sammanfattning : Controlling bacterial infections with antibiotics is central to modern health care. However, increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotics threatens effective therapy. This thesis concerns the use of the antibiotic fusidic acid, and novel analogues of fusidic acid, to treat topical infections caused by the bacterial pathogen Staphylococcu aureus. LÄS MER
8. Migration Towards Next Generation Optical Access and Transport Networks
Sammanfattning : By 2020 there will be 50 billion connected devices over the Internet. With the fast-increasing data traffic demand in both fixed and mobile networks, network operators need to migrate networks towards next generation solutions. LÄS MER
9. Sequence- and structure guided engineering of proteins and enzymes for biotechnology and health applications
Sammanfattning : Proteins are highly diverse and sophisticated biomolecules that represent a cornerstone of biological structure and function and have been exploited in man-made applications for thousands of years. Those proteins that facilitate chemical reactions at physiologically relevant time-scales are referred to as enzymes. LÄS MER
10. Investigation of RNase P active site residues and catalytic domain interaction
Sammanfattning : RNase P is an essential endoribonuclease responsible for the maturation of the tRNA 5’end. The RNase P family encompasses the ribozyme based, RNase P RNP, and proteinaceous RNase P (PRORP). The ribozyme based RNase P is widely distributed in most species while PRORP has so far mainly been found in some eukaryotic cells. LÄS MER
