26. Suspended particulate matter, sedimentation and early diagenetic processes in the Kalix River estuary, northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Many important reactions controlling the transfer of elements from the continents to coastal waters and the oceans are taking place in estuaries. For many elements, estuaries can act as filters, capable of reducing the river load of dissolved and particulate elements to the oceans. LÄS MER
27. 3-D numerical modeling of flow and sediment transport in rivers
Sammanfattning : The fully integrated 3-D, time dependant, hydrodynamic and sediment transport numerical model ECOMSED was used to simulate flow and sediment transport in rivers. ECOMSED was originally developed for large water bodies such as lakes and oceans and solves the primitive equations of RANS along with a second order turbulence model in an orthogonal curvilinear σ- coordinate system. 28. Marine oolites as proxies for palaeoenvironmental reconstructions during extinction events
Sammanfattning : At present time, it has been stated that “Human activities, principally through emissions of greenhouse gases, have unequivocally caused global warming, with global surface temperature reaching 1.1°C above 1850–1900 in 2011–2020”. LÄS MER
29. Man-made structures as habitat for marine faunal assemblages
Sammanfattning : Artificial reefs are structures placed in the sea to promote marine life. Although constructions such as oil-rigs, wind farms, bridges and pier pilings are built for other purposes, they could be regarded as artificial reefs as they add new surfaces in the oceans, susceptible to colonization by marine organism. 30. Nitrogen fixation among marine bacterioplankton
Sammanfattning : While bacterioplankton indisputably control vital biogeochemical paths in the cycling of carbon and nutrients in the world’s oceans, our knowledge about the functional and genetic diversity of bacterioplankton communities is negligible. In this thesis, molecular and more traditional microbiological methods were used to study the specific function of N2-fixation and in a general sense diversity of marine bacterioplankton species.
