  1. 6. Laboratory methods for investigation of the immunological orchestra in response to pathogens

    Författare :Hanna Carlsson; Ivar Tjernberg; Christina Ekerfelt; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Jorma Hinkula; Matti Sällberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia; Influenza; Immunology; Immune response; Cellmediated; Serological; Subclinical; ELISA; Luminex; Proximity extension assay;

    Sammanfattning : Laboratory methods used for investigation of immune response often involve collection of whole blood and analysis of different biomarkers in blood components or generated from pathogen stimulation of whole blood or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Methods used to measure biomarkers are for example enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which measures one biomarker at a time or multiplex assays for example x-unknown, multi-analyte profiling (xMAP) by Luminex or proximity extension assay (PEA), which can measure up to just over 3000 biomarkers at a time. 2. 7. Cholera toxin B subunit as a carrier for inducing mucosal immunity and/or peripheral tolerance

    Författare :Carola Rask; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mucosal immunity; tolerance; atopic allergy; cholera toxin B subunit; antibody response; IgE;

    Sammanfattning : When an antigen is introduced via a mucosal route, either immunity or tolerance, or even both may be induced. Both immunity and tolerance are actively induced phenomena and both of them could have important medical implications as well as potential prophylactic or therapeutic applications. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Mucosal immunity in the respiratory tract : The role of IgA in protection against intracellular pathogens

    Författare :Ariane Rodríguez; Carmen Fernández; Lennart Hammarström; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucosal immunity; respiratory tract; IgA; intracellular pathogens; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : The lungs and upper airways are mucosal surfaces that are common site for infection with an enormous variety of inhaled pathogens. Therefore, induction of immune responses in the respiratory tract is crucial for protection against respiratory diseases. One of the pathogens infecting the host via the respiratory tract is Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Upper Airway Mucosal Inflammation : Proteomic Studies after Exposure to Irritants and Microbial Agents

    Författare :Louise Fornander; Mats Lindahl; Bijar Ghafouri; Pål Graff; Magnus Svartengren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : People are, in their daily lives, exposed to a number of airborne foreign compounds that do not normally affect the body. However, depending on the nature of these compounds, dose and duration of exposure, various airway symptoms may arise. LÄS MER

  5. 10. IgA Nephropathy – Mucosal Immunity and Treatment Options

    Författare :Hilde Kloster Smerud; Bengt Fellström; Gudjon Kristjansson; Roger Hällgren; Johan W. de Fijter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; IgA nephropathy; mucosal immunity; gastrointestinal sensitivity; food allergens; pharmacological treatment; budesonide; statin; clinical trial; renal transplantation; recurrence; Internal Medicine; Internmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : In the present studies we have explored the link between food hypersensitivity and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and evaluated treatment options in primary and recurrent disease. Approximately one third of our IgAN patients had a rectal mucosal sensitivity to gluten, as demonstrated by increased local mucosal nitric oxide production and/or myeloperoxidase release after gluten challenge.
