1. IgA Nephropathy – Mucosal Immunity and Treatment Options
Sammanfattning : In the present studies we have explored the link between food hypersensitivity and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and evaluated treatment options in primary and recurrent disease. Approximately one third of our IgAN patients had a rectal mucosal sensitivity to gluten, as demonstrated by increased local mucosal nitric oxide production and/or myeloperoxidase release after gluten challenge. 2. Irritable bowel syndrome diagnosed in primary care : Occurrence, treatment and impact on everyday life
Sammanfattning : Background: IBS is the most common functional gastrointestinal disorders and affects approximately 10-20 % of the general population and is widespread in all societies and socio-economic groups. Although the disorder does not have a life-threatening course, it still seriously affects the patients in their everyday life. LÄS MER
3. Inhaled pharmacological treatment and critical inhaler technique errors in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an inflammatory lung disease characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and a high risk of exacerbations. Preventive and maintenance pharmacological treatment is primarily administered through handheld inhalers, which are available in several different device-drug combinations. LÄS MER
4. Towards Pharmacological Treatment of Cystic Fibrosis
Sammanfattning : S-nitrosogluthatione is an endogenous substance, present at decreased levels in the lungs of CF patients and was recently found to induce mature CFTR in airway epithelial CF cell lines. We show that S-nitrosoglutathione in physiological concentrations increases the presence of ΔF508 CFTR in the cell membrane and induces cAMP dependent chloride transport in cystic fibrosis airway epithelial cells. 5. Novel pharmacological treatment alternatives for schizophrenia
Sammanfattning : Antipsychotic drugs are commonly divided into typical (first generation) and atypical (second generation) antipsychotic drugs. Clinically effective doses of typical antipsychotic drugs generate a striatal dopamine D2 receptor occupancy of about 70 80%, approaching a level that is associated with a high risk of extrapyramidal side effects.
