26. Frustrated magnetism in icosahedral structures : The influence of order-disorder in quasicrystals and approximant crystals
Sammanfattning : This work will begin with an introduction to quasicrystals (QCs) and their structure, defining the unit cell-equivalent for icosahedral quasiperiodicity: a 3D tiling based on the golden ratio and aperiodic in all three dimensions. We briefly present the cut-and-project method used to generate QCs from a higher dimension hypercrystal, and how to build the 3D Penrose tilings, composed of the two golden rhombohedra. LÄS MER
27. Spin-Orbit and Spin-Spin Coupling in the Triplet State
Sammanfattning : The underlying theory of “Spin” of an electron and its associated inter-actions causing internal fields and spectral shift to bulk-magnetism iswell established now. Our understanding of spin properties is significant andmore useful than ever before. LÄS MER
28. Ab initio studies of advanced functional materials with complex magnetism
Sammanfattning : For centuries, magnetism of materials has been an inevitable part of human civilization. Only in the last century, the mysteries of magnetism started to unfold thanks to the development of quantum theory of solids. LÄS MER
29. Materials Design from First Principles : stability and magnetism of nanolaminates
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, first-principles calculations within density functional theory are presented, with a principal goal to investigate the phase stability of so called Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases. MAX phases are a group of nanolaminated materials comprised of a transition metal (M), a group 12-16 element (A), and carbon or nitrogen (X). LÄS MER
30. Development and application of Muffin-Tin Orbital based Green’s function techniques to systems with magnetic and chemical disorder
Sammanfattning : Accurate electronic structure calculations are becoming more and more important because of the increasing need for information about systems which are hard to perform experiments on. Databases compiled from theoretical results are also being used more than ever for applications, and the reliability of the theoretical methods are of utmost importance. LÄS MER
