11. Theoretical Studies of Magnetism and Electron Correlation in Solids
Sammanfattning : This work presents new development and applications of ab-initio simulation tools for material science. Focus lies on materials with strong electronic correlation and strong spin-orbit coupling. LÄS MER
12. Magnetism and Structure of Thin 3d Transition Metal Films : XMCD and EXAFS using Polarized Soft X-Rays
Sammanfattning : In this Thesis the magnetic and structural properties of thin epitaxial Fe, Co, and Ni films are discussed. Some of the in-situ prepared samples were used to characterize the degree of circular polarization of the newly installed beamline D1011 at MAX-lab. LÄS MER
13. Theoretical and Computational Studies on the Physics of Applied Magnetism : Magnetocrystalline Anisotropy of Transition Metal Magnets and Magnetic Effects in Elastic Electron Scattering
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, two selected topics in magnetism are studied using theoretical modelling and computational methods. The first of these is the magnetocrystalline anisotropy energy (MAE) of transition metal based magnets. In particular, ways of finding 3d transition metal based materials with large MAE are considered. LÄS MER
14. Uncovering Magnetic Order in Nanostructured Disordered Materials : A Study of Amorphous Magnetic Layered Structures
Sammanfattning : The scope of this thesis is the study of the interplay between structure and magnetism in amorphous materials. The investigations focus on the growth of amorphous layers and the study of the influence of structural disorder and reduced physical extension on the magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. 15. Exploring the Magnetism of Ultra Thin 3d Transition Metal Films
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the magnetic and structural properties of ultra-thin 3d transition metals films have been investigated, in particular Fe, Ni and Co films. X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism (XMCD) has provided element specific spin (ms ) and orbital (ml ) moments per atom by utilizing the magneto optic sum-rules. LÄS MER
